Charles Edward Myers Ripley, West Virginia Obituary

Charles Edward Myers

Charles Edward Myers, 82, of Ripley passed away Thanksgiving morning at Jackson General Hospital, after a recent diagnosis and courageous battle against colon cancer. Charles is survived by his wife Helen Myers and his stepdaughter, Brigitte Lowe and her husband John Lowe. Charles was preceded in death by his daughter, Dawn Myers, first wife, Carol Curry Myers, sister Mary Myers Craig and parents, Clarence Myers and Gayle Davis Myers of Spencer. From adolescence to adulthood, Charles, or as his friends would refer to him “Chum”, was full of adventure and ingenuity; from managing a paper route to graduating from WVU with an Electrical Engineering degree and retiring from his engineering career with First Energy, he was always improvising an strategizing for the optimal outcome. Charles grew up with dear friends and maintained those meaningful relationships over the years with Ray Miller, “Huck” Hardman and Dean Wright; all by his side in his final days. He would say “they were older than me, but they included me, and we got along well together.” They would reminisce about all their escapades; swimming, fishing, hunting, car dealing and playing cards; all good fun that dear friends share together. Later in life, Jimmy Martin of Ripley also became one of Charles’s close, steadfast friends. Charles’s lifelong sense of reality and practical approach to living began and ended with his family, close friends and dearest friends from Spencer. In honor of Charles, please have preventative health screenings, colon cancer and other diseases can be preventable and highly treatable when caught at an early stage. We pray for all those fighting this horrible disease and encourage everyone to have preventative screenings to catch the disease early when you may be able to treat it and beat it. A graveside service to celebrate Charles’s life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, December 4th at Eventide Cemetery, Spencer.
