Gloria Kerr Obituary

Gloria (LaBrecque) Kerr, 81, went peacefully home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 23, 2021 after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Gloria was born on April 2, 1940 to Albert and Edna (Whitney) LeBrecque. She grew up in Westbrook, Maine and attended Westbrook schools where she graduated in 1958. Gloria was a cheerleader in High School and was a member of the National Honor Society. She and her sister, Joan, were part of a sister tap dancing act, and they traveled throughout the state of Maine with Ken McKenzie and his band.

In 1959, she married the love of her life, Harry Kerr, Jr. They were married for 56 years before Harry passed away in 2015. They moved to Gray, Maine in 1967 and she lived in the same house for 50 years before moving to Stroudwater Lodge in Westbrook in 2017, and then moved to the Barron Center in Portland in 2019.

Gloria loved to sew clothes for her two daughters, Cheryl and Karen, in their early years, and she continued to sew outfits for her granddaughter and her granddaughter’s American Girl doll many years later. She taught herself to knit and crochet, and always enjoyed making things with her hands and decorating her home.

Gloria was active at the church she attended, Crossroads Community Church in Gray. She led ladies Bible studies, taught Sunday School, led prayer groups, and was a deaconess/church treasurer for many years. Gloria reflected Jesus’ love to all she met when they walked through the doors of the church. She cherished God’s Word, and was always willing to share a verse of Scripture to encourage others.

Gloria and her husband had many treasured memories of their many years of camping at Lakeside Pines in Bridgton, Maine. They began camping when their daughter, Cheryl, and her family were camping at the campground. So many fun memories were made with their children and grandchildren over the years, including many evenings spent playing Uno and laughing when Gloria couldn’t tell the difference between the green and blue cards! They made so many friends over the years, and everyone was sad to see them go when their time at the campground came to an end.

Gloria was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Edna LaBrecque and her husband, Harry Kerr. She is survived by her brothers, William LaBrecque and his wife, Kay; Edward LaBrecque and his wife, Connie; sisters Joan Lajoie and her husband, Tom; and Theresa Towle. She is also survived by her daughters, Cheryl Ramsdell and her husband Joe, and Karen Boudreau and her husband, Carl. She has four grandchildren, Kristin Zadakis, Ryan Ramsdell, Lindsay Sawyer and Hannah Boudreau, and two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Emilia.

A celebration of Gloria’s life will be held at Crossroads Community Church in Gray, Maine on December 4, 2021 at 11:00 am.
