Donald "Don" Melvin Hansen

Donald “Don” Melvin Hansen died peacefully of natural causes at the home of his son and daughter-in-law on November 22, 2021 at the age of 92. Don was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on October 7, 1929 where he lived until beginning his service in the U.S. Navy stationed in New Orleans, LA. He met his wife, Esther Livingston Hansen, of Merigold, MS during his tenure with the Navy. Don and Esther, who pre-deceased him, were married for 54 years. Over his life, he, Esther and their children resided mostly in Jackson, MS where they found a home at Meadowbrook Church of Christ. He was active in the church especially bringing the gift of his beautiful tenor voice to the a cappella music at numerous services. He was also an active member of the local chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America for many years. As a trade draftsman, he brought his creative talents professionally to bear at Vickers, Magna America and Siemens while in Jackson. His creative talents also included painting and wood carving which he enjoyed in his leisure time. He and Esther relocated to Santa Paula, CA to live near his parents. While there, they were active in the Church of Christ, he continued the singing he so enjoyed with local a Barber Shop Group and continued his drafting professionally. Those that knew him will always remember his glowing smile, beautiful abundant white hair, fun loving demeanor, engaging personality, and especially his love of family and life! He was pre-deceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hansen and brother Robert Hansen of Sedona, AZ. His surviving family member’s are Patricia Larson (sister) of Rice Lake, WI. Children: Bruce Hansen, Raymond, MS; Karen Hansen Powell (Joe), Jackson, MS; Susan Hansen Harrison (Tom), CA. He was pre-deceased by his son Scott Hansen, (Twila) Raymond, MS. Grandchildren are Erin Powell McCain (Cody), Joe Jordan Powell, IV, Birmingham, AL; Celeste Hansen, Rachel Rodgers Dawson (Christopher), and Keith Nali of CA along with great grandchildren, Cameron, Mason and Tyler McCain of Madison, MS, Erica Graves (Billy), and Amber Higgins of Raymond, MS, Jonathan Hansen, Samuel Greer, Jessica Pinion, Isaiah and Ira Dawson all of CA.
