Clementhus Lanita Brandon Obituary

Clementhus Lanita Brandon, 75, departed this life on Thursday, November 25, 2021. She was born to Rufus and Lacey Mae Smith on November 26, 1945, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was a faithful member of Jerusalem Church of God in Christ, where at a very early age she received the gift of the Holy Ghost and began teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ under the pastoral leadership of Elder Percy A. Grisby. Clementhus had such an anointing upon her that at the tender age of eight, she was placed on a tabletop to teach the Word at a state convocation meeting—the title of the message was, “The Simplicity of the Gospel.” She was a member of the statewide recognized gospel singing group known as the “Grisbyettes”. Clementhus was over the auxiliary bible study for the Young Peoples Willing Workers (YPWW). Additionally, as a Missionary, she taught in almost every COGIC church in the city. Several years ago, after becoming a member of the Good News COGIC, Clementhus became a licensed Evangelist missionary where she continued ministering and serving as a prayer warrior. She taught adult Sunday School and she also traveled to nursing homes to pray, serve, and teach. In her early life, Clementhus attended Cincinnati Public Schools, including Hughes High School; and she also pursued her business degree from Southern Ohio College. In her adult life, Clementhus was highly regarded as one of the best keypunch operators in the city where she was employed by Proctor & Gamble for ten years and the Internal Revenue Service for over eleven years. However, it was one of her very first employment opportunities that she was the proudest of … Teasdale Fenton Cleaners; wherein, she worked in the drapery department. Aunt (“Aint”) Ment, as many would affectionately call her, always had a positive word at the right time but she could also be very direct if you needed to be put in line. Many times, all it took was that look, and you knew she meant business. We all knew it was out of love and her desire to have order in the family. She always encouraged family members to seek and value education. Even towards the end of her working life, she served as a Foster Grandmother which allowed her to devote her time enhancing the quality of life of children and youth at Eden Grove Academy. Clementhus worked hard to provide her children with all their needs (and many of their wants) especially during their adolescent years. It was that selfless love for her children that motivated her to work overnights on the 3rd shift at the IRS to ensure they had lunch money for school, Easter outfits, or new Converse gym shoes. That love was reciprocated in her later years as her daughter, Tiffany, would become her caretaker and did it sacrificially while going through her own health challenges. Everyone knew that Clementhus was an avid sports fan. She enjoyed ALL sports especially football. God gave her an extra special blessing in that her son, Chris, was able to play for her favorite NFL team the Kansas City Chiefs. Clementhus favorite hobbies were reading, quilting, and fishing. Clementhus leaves to cherish her memory: two children, Chris Montane (Billie Jean) Smith of Lenexa, Kansas, and Tiffany Latrice Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, Sheena N. Buchanan of Olathe, Kansas, Jarrod M. Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Brian C. Smith of Indianapolis, Indiana; great-grandchildren, Kaiden, Kassidy, Jarrod, Jr., James, Kylie, and Blaise; mother-in-Law, Evelyn Hobdy; sister-in-law, Barbara Brandon; brothers-in-law, George (Randy) and Mark Hobdy; nieces, Deborah A. Reliford, DeAndrea Foster-Smith, and Dalziel Reliford-Stone; nephews, David L. Reliford, and Leonard L. Foster; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Rufus Smith; mother, Evangelist Lacey Mae Smith; husband, James C. Brandon; sisters, Missionary LaVerne V. Reliford, and Patricia M. Foster; special cousins, Chris Crawford and JoAnn Ishmail; father-in-law, George Hobdy; brother-in-law, Allen Hobdy; and sister-in-law, G. Deanne Davis. Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Good News Church of God in Christ, 1063 W. North Bend Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45224. Interment: Vine Street Hill Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to KINLEY Funeral Home and Arrangement Center.
