Jim J. Lindahl Obituary

James “Jim” John Lindahl died at his home in Nederland, CO on November 22, 2021.

Jim was born May 29, 1952 in Minneapolis, MN to Elizabeth Virginia Lindahl. Jim spent his childhood in Minneapolis with his mother, his two sisters, his grandparents, his aunt, and his four uncles. From a young age he developed a strong work ethic, taking his first job as a young boy working a neighborhood paper route. He had several close friends growing up (friendships he kept into adulthood) and enjoyed designing and building his tree house, and building models. In High-school, Jim studied radio and television repair at Minneapolis Vocational High School, where he graduated class of 1970. During that time, he also worked at Young-Quinlan Department store. Jim also worked hard to fix up an old car that he bought from one of his uncles.

In October of 1972, Jim enlisted in the Air Force. He was trained in Electronic Communication and Cryptographic Equipment System Repairs, and served at Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs until his Honorable Discharge in October of 1977. The specialized training he received while in the Air Force prepared him for his entire adult career. Immediately after his Honorable Discharge from the Air Force, Jim took a job at StorageTek. He remained with the company for 35 years, including through its transitions as it was purchased by Sun Microsystems and finally Oracle. During that long career, Jim rose through the ranks of several positions, including Test Technician, Software Test Engineer, and Digital Hardware Engineer. He retired in December of 2014.

When he was still in high school, Jim was introduced to Beverlee Jean Shinn, whom he married on September 14, 1973. Together, they welcomed three children into the world, and eventually two grandchildren. In 1975, Jim was baptized into the body of Christ and became a member of the Lord’s church. He worked and worshiped first with the Eastside congregation in Colorado Springs, CO, then with the Broomfield church of Christ, and finally with the Northwest church of Christ in Westminster, CO for over 30 years. Jim loved the Lord and did his best to serve Him in every area of his life.

Jim was normally quiet and thoughtful. He was frequently planning or problem solving at all hours of the day and night. Jim also loved to spend time in the mountains 4-wheeling, camping, and fishing. He enjoyed working on cars, traveling, spending time with his family and his church family, and watching John Wayne movies.

Jim especially loved the time he spent with his grandchildren! He loved taking them to places like the museum, the zoo, or to ball games, giving them kisses while covered in shaving cream, and playing silly games with them when they were young. When they got older, he loved teaching them lessons, telling them stories, talking with them about cars and computers, taking hikes or hunting with them, and watching movies with the volume turned way up and the closed captions on.

Jim is preceded in death by his stepfather “Bud” Murschel, his mother Elizabeth Murschel, his aunt Mary Ellen Lindahl, and 3 of his 4 uncles. Jim is survived by his three children, Dan (Linnette) Lindahl of Gunnison, CO, Chris Lindahl of Fortuna, CA, and Sabrina Hart of Broomfield, CO; his two grandchildren, Tabitha Lindahl of Gunnison, CO, and Caleb Lindahl of Gunnison, CO; his two sisters, Mary (Bill) Schreiber of Minneapolis, MN, and Roberta Dahl of Columbia Heights, MN; one uncle; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. We all hope he always knew how much we love him. He will be missed dearly!

A memorial service will be held at the Northwest church of Christ building in Westminster, CO on Saturday, December 11th at 2pm. Flowers may be sent on Saturday after 10am. For those unable to attend in person, a livestream of the service can be viewed here
