Neil Clifford Yommer Obituary

Neil Clifford Yommer, 89, of Grantsville, MD, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at his residence.


Born August 15, 1932, in Grantsville, he was the son of the late Harry L. and Melva (Huff) Yommer.


Mr. Yommer was a truck driver for 15 years for Celanese Trucking, a salesman for Casselman Motor Co. for 10 years and retired salesman from Witmer Foods. He was a graduate of Grantsville High School and served two years in the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict.


He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Grantsville, Grantsville Post 214, American Legion, where he served as a past Commander, Mt. Lodge #99, A. F.&A.M., Frostburg, MD, Cumberland Scottish Rite, Ali Ghan Shrine, Desert Legion, Royal Order of Jesters #117, Kachina Club and Woodmen of the World. He was an associate member of Lodge #40 FOP, and a former Charter member of the Grantsville Lion’s Club.


Neil transported children from Grantsville to Cumberland to be taken to the Shriner’s Hospital. He had many friends he truly enjoyed spending time with and was a stranger to no one.


He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Beachy) Yommer, having celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on August 4, 2021; two daughters, Bonnie (Yommer) Myers and husband, Stuart and Brenda (Yommer) Ansell and husband, Harold “Butch” Ansell, Jr.; one sister, Donna (Yommer) Trott, Solomons, MD; five grandchildren, Heidi (Ansell) Lewis and husband, Dan, Erin (Myers) Mills, Harold “BJ” Ansell, III and wife, Jennifer; Ryan Myers and wife, Laura, Nathan Myers and wife, Kelsey; 10 great-grandchildren, Sadie, Talon, Julian, Max, Alex, Levi, Rhynn, Lucas, Raya and Marleigh; one niece, Cheryl Simms and husband, Mark, and their son, Christopher.


Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Saturday, November 27, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Tyler Graham officiating. Interment will be in the Grantsville Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by Grantsville Post 214, American Legion.


A Masonic Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
