Jeanette Peterson, lovingly called Mommy Nette by immediate and extended family, was born on January 25, 1939, to the late Grace Lee Holmes Peterson and the late Robert “RV” Peterson in Lake Wales, Polk County, Florida. Raised in Waycross, Ware County, Georgia she received her formal education from the public school system and graduated in Center High School’s class of 1958. She relocated to New Jersey in 1965 where she resided for over 30 years. She furthered her studies by attending Girls Vocational Tech cosmetology school in Newark, New Jersey, and Essex College of Business. Gifted with diverse abilities, she expressed her enjoyment of life through her trades, including cosmetology, clerical work, videography, modeling, and hosting fashion shows. In 1996 Jeanette returned to Waycross but she was never able to remain idle long. She worked as a crossing guard and substitute teacher and formed a small women’s group among her friends and family upon her return. She was a long-time member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and served in the Mission’s Ministry, including in the role of Vice President and she was a member of the Bernard Benson Community Choir. Talent and creativity were also amid her list of skills, as she loved to sew and crochet. She created patterns to design her own fashionable outfits and crocheted a variety of items, including baby blankets for her grandchildren, great nieces, and nephews made with love. She gifted all those around her with trinkets practical for life, most notable were the array of flashlights for home and mobile use. She considered herself very knowledgeable and without question imparted her wisdom to others. Most importantly, she adored her family and was never without her twin sister, Jean, whom she loved dearly. Jeanette gained her wings on Friday, November 19, 2021, at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross, Georgia. She was 82 years old. She left an abiding imprint on all our hearts and will be missed tremendously. In addition to her parents, Jeanette was predeceased by brother, Robert E. Peterson; brother-in-law Ernest “Pluggy” Bellamy; niece and namesake Melissa Jeanette Bellamy. She leaves her memories to be cherished by children Natalie D. Denson of Elizabeth, NJ, Shelly G. Peterson and Samantha J. Peterson Walker (Clint) all of Waycross, GA; grandchildren Tameeka W. Peterson, Aaren L. Walker, Jarrett N. Walker (Nia), Lauren N. Walker, and Clint Walker, Jr.; great grandchildren Chynna, Sanai, Jaida, and Jaden Peterson, and Emery and Elliot Walker; twin sister Jean Peterson Bellamy; nieces Patricia “Pat” Lucas, Melody and Shavonne Bellamy; nephews Jamal and Asodd Bellamy; great nephews Shaquan and Cameron Bellamy, and Clinton “Clint” Johnson, Jr; great nieces Janae Bellamy, Clinterra Johnson, Romaya Kenney, Camille, Kennedy, and Khai Bellamy; good friends Doreen Hendricks and Velva Fullmore Adir; and a host of loving cousins, including Lillian Rawls and Carol Wilson, other relatives, and caring friends. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday (November 30, 2021) at Oakland Cemetery.
