Dr. John Oliver Lewis, Jr. 74, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, IA due to congestive heart failure. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Polk City, where the family will receive friends from 9 - 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, near Van Meter. Dr. John was born August 22, 1947, in Richmond, VA, to John and Martha (Halder) Lewis, Sr. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. Dr. John married Angel Ramp on May 12, 1979, in Indianapolis, IN. He served as a minister for 42 years, serving most recently at Hedrick Christian Church in Hedrick, IA. Dr. John was an avid basketball fan, spending his free time attending games. John is survived by his wife of 42 years, Angel, daughter, Mariah Angel (Andrew) Houp of Des Moines, four sisters of Indianapolis, IN, and his aunt, Margaret Lewis of Richmond, VA.
