Leonard Isaac Bordeaux Sr., 86, was born June 10, 1935 in Rosebud, SD to Isaac Bordeaux and Dora Whipple. He made his journey to the Spirit World on November 20, 2021 at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Leonard grew up in Rosebud and was raised by his Dad and Grandmother Annie Kills Enemy Bordeaux. He found farm work in Alliance, Nebraska at the age of 18, got married and started his family in 1954. Leonard was an athletic person, excelling at baseball, softball and basketball. While in California he sparred with pro-fighters. Upon returning to Alliance he coached Little League baseball and amateur boxing in the 60’s and early 70’s. The baseball team he coached won championships. In addition, Leonard, along with Assistant Coach Woody Dubray, produced champion boxers. Their fighters George “Tony” Dubray and Leonard Bordeaux Jr. were inducted into the Great Plains Amateur Boxing Hall of Fame in April 2016. He also coached a powerful boxing team out of Todd County. Leonard volunteered countless hours coaching baseball and boxing. He grew up around horses and rode until he was in his 70’s. Leonard made sure his children could ride a horse. He also loved to attend rodeos, especially at the Rosebud Fair and at Eagle Butte. He liked to entertain his friends and relatives with his magic tricks, thus giving him the nickname “Magic.” Leonard travelled considerable distances to attend his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s games, graduations and special events.
