Leonard Isaac Bordeaux

Leonard Isaac Bordeaux Sr., 86, was born June 10, 1935 in Rosebud, SD to Isaac Bordeaux and Dora Whipple. He made his journey to the Spirit World on November 20, 2021 at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Leonard grew up in Rosebud and was raised by his Dad and Grandmother Annie Kills Enemy Bordeaux. He found farm work in Alliance, Nebraska at the age of 18, got married and started his family in 1954. Leonard was an athletic person, excelling at baseball, softball and basketball. While in California he sparred with pro-fighters. Upon returning to Alliance he coached Little League baseball and amateur boxing in the 60’s and early 70’s. The baseball team he coached won championships. In addition, Leonard, along with Assistant Coach Woody Dubray, produced champion boxers. Their fighters George “Tony” Dubray and Leonard Bordeaux Jr. were inducted into the Great Plains Amateur Boxing Hall of Fame in April 2016. He also coached a powerful boxing team out of Todd County. Leonard volunteered countless hours coaching baseball and boxing. He grew up around horses and rode until he was in his 70’s. Leonard made sure his children could ride a horse. He also loved to attend rodeos, especially at the Rosebud Fair and at Eagle Butte. He liked to entertain his friends and relatives with his magic tricks, thus giving him the nickname “Magic.” Leonard travelled considerable distances to attend his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s games, graduations and special events. Leonard retired from the Rosebud Sioux Tribe near the age of 80. Leonard will be greatly missed. Leonard is survived by his children Anita and husband Louis LaRose, Leonard “Sonny” Bordeaux Jr., Kenny Bordeaux and wife Tara, Delores and husband Thomas Lone Wolf, Nathan Bordeaux and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his companion Dorothy McLean and siblings Carol Cook, Yvonne Jordan, Rita Bender and Kenny Fisher. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents Isaac Bordeaux and Dora Sellman, sister Wanita Prue and brother Donald Sellman Jr. Pallbearers will be Lorenzo Dillon, Rob Jordan, Calvin Waln, Thomas Lone Wolf, Leonard Bordeaux III, Bob Saucedo and Sean Walker Honorary Pallbearers are Ben Jensen, Bob Kelly, Robert Burnette, Sam Prue, Robert Monroe, Cisco Jensen, Alex Red Prue, Rodney Bordeaux, Carl Waln, Jeffrey LeMair, Lionel Bordeaux, Dr. Craig Freed, Jay Lovejoy, Victor Zeigler, Mike Kilmar, Red Colombe, Jim Colombe, Skinny Colombe, Wes Colombe, Robby Whipple, Smoke Whipple, Chet Lambert, Ron Eagle Chasing, Paul Valandra, Riley Sargent the whole poker gang, Leonard’s former boxers and all Family and Friends. Wake: Friday, November 26, 2021, Father Paul Hall, Mission, SD beginning at 1 pm Services: Saturday, November 27, 2021, Father Paul Hall, Mission, SD at 10 am Burial: St. Charles Catholic Cemetery, St. Francis, SD Meal and Giveaway will be held at Father Paul Hall after burial.
