Floyd O’Dell Monger was born on January 17, 1928 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma to Floyd L. and Ruby (Frick) Monger. He passed to new life on November 23, 2021, in Claremore, Oklahoma at the age of 93. O’Dell grew up and attended school in Pawhuska where he was quarterback for his high school team. He joined the United States Navy in June of 1946 and served as Journalist Mate for two years during World War II. He returned home and attended Oklahoma A&M College at Stillwater where he made up for lost time and graduated with his degree in Business Management, with a minor in Accounting, in three years. He met the love of his life, Eileen Haley, while at college and the two married in between semesters. While in college he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity along with fellow fraternity brother T. Boone Pickens. O’Dell convinced Eileen Pawhuska was the best place in the world to live and so the morning after graduation they moved to his hometown where he began managing and operating Monger Bros. Auto Supply for his father and after ten years, purchased the business. They soon started their family, and had a daughter, Candy and son, Tracy; they also became foster parents and had seven foster kids over 15 years. Over the next several years, O’Dell became very involved in the Pawhuska community, serving as an ambassador for the City of Pawhuska, Sister City of Montebaun, France, hosting the group in Pawhuska. He was also a member of the Church of Christ in Pawhuska, Bartlesville, Chouteau and current Church of Christ member in Pryor and Constantine Theatre in Pawhuska. Always a business man, he was president of many boards, including the State Association of Automotive Jobbers, Distributors Warehouse Inc., T & E Equipment, Hissom Memorial Center Parent Guardian Association, United Fund and Rotary Club. The high point in his business career was when he became the largest DuPont Automotive paint distributor in Tulsa, with three locations. He purchased land and built the dream warehouse for Monger Pro Color, before his retirement. O’Dell partially retired in 2003. He loved traveling the world, so alongside Eileen, they visited many interesting locations over the years including France, Africa, Ireland, Mexico, Canada, Australia, Greece, Jordan, Isreal, Peru and many other countries. He also loved family vacations in the US and loved reading maps to navigate their adventures. He had a gift for communication that extended beyond language barriers. He made friends with people everywhere he travelled, whether or not he spoke their language. He was kind and generous and had a special place in his heart for special needs kids. He was also a joker; known for his hilarious stories and corny jokes as well as his unforgettable performance of a turkey on stage at Constantine Theatre. It is safe to say, once you met O’Dell, he was an unforgettable character. He and Eileen moved to Pryor several years ago to be nearer to their daughter, Candy, and have become wonderful friends and neighbors to many. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Eileen, of the home; daughter, Candy McBride and husband Judge Terry McBride of Pryor; grandson, Chase McBride and wife Rachel of Owasso; two great granddaughters, Hayden and Charlotte McBride and numerous nieces, nephews and other special friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Ruby Monger; son, Tracy O’Dell Monger; brother, Doyle Monger; sister, Lavena Faye Monger-McRee-Hamilton-Waid and foster daughter, Jackie Waid.
