Donna Sue Miller Obituary

Donna Sue Miller, 83, died peacefully on November 23, 2021 after being surrounded for days by a big family that loved her very much. She was able to remain at home because of the special care provided by her daughter, Lisa who stayed by her side 24 hours a day for the past 7 weeks.

She was born on August 8, 1938 to Burnie S. Sheppard and Eva M. Sheppard. She was the second oldest of four girls. She spent her entire life in the Springfield area graduating from Senior High School in 1955. She has remained connected to many of her high school friends to this day. One of those fellow graduates was her sweetheart, Bob Miller who she married on September 21, 1956, this resulted in two children, Steve Miller and Lisa (Miller) Wallen.

Donna and Bob loved gardening and from their harvest they made salsa, and canned green beans that everyone fought over. She was a great cook and make pumpkin cookies and meatloaf that no one can duplicate. She also enjoyed sewing (blankets/ hats) for preemies in the hospital and playing cards with her sisters and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sisters, Shirley Jean Fulton and Linda Lou Vaughan and brother-in-law, Wade Fulton.

She is survived by her children Steve (Taryn) Miller and Lisa (Bruce) Wallen. Her sister Jerri (Larry) Hendrix, five grandchildren, Matt (Desire) Miller, Whitney (Dane) Leonard, Nick Wallen, Brad (Kelley) Miller, and Josh (Kayla) Wallen and a host of extended family and dear friends.

She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren ages 13 to 3 with number 11 due in March 2022.

Her great-grandchildren called her “Ma” and they were able to spend time with her every week at “Sunday Dinner” hosted at her son’s house. She loved them and they adored her.

Service will be held at The Downtown Church, 413 E. Walnut, where she was a Charter member, on November 30, 2021 with visitation at 10 am and service at 11 am. Burial will be in Brookline Cemetery under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Might Oakes Heart Foundation, www.mightyoakes.org

She was the best Wife, Mom, Grandma, and “Ma” we could have ever asked for. She leaves a legacy of love. We will miss her every day until we see her again in Heaven.
