Carol J. Kraiza Obituary

Carol J. (Kamm) Kraiza, 77, of West Suffield, passed peacefully and surrounded by her loving family on November 20, 2021. Born in Hartford, on April 30, 1944 daughter of the late Julius and Linda Kamm. She is survived by her husband of 54 years Richard Kraiza, her son Richard Kraiza and his wife Karine and their son, Carol's only grandson, Alexandre; daughter, Lynn Kraiza; sister Jacqueline Messenger and her husband James; brother Robert J. Kamm and his companion Lois Longley. She also leaves her beloved nephews and nieces, David Messenger and his children Julius and Max; Stephen Messenger and his children Sage and Gabriella; and Mark Messenger and his children Nicholas and Kathryn; Kristin Kraiza; Robert Kraiza and his son Nathan; and Christopher Kraiza, and his children Lucas, Owen and Hope; and Kimberly Klaus Harrison, whom she considered an honorary daughter for the last 35 years. Carol also had extended family that were a very important part in her life. She will be dearly missed by Delores Lindquist, Linda Tkacz, Vicki Rennell, Ronald Carlson and their families, as well as her lifelong friend Dawn Burke. There are so many qualities that made Carol special. Her home was a welcome place for all, with warm meals in abundance and her door always open. In Carols eyes, cooking and baking were not the same. Her cooking of comfort foods included baked beans, corn chowder, baked stuffed shrimp, homemade sauce and lasagna. Her baking created trademark dishes that her family loved. Baked apple pie, apple crisp, lemon meringue pie and cream puffs, just to name a few. Always shared with family and friends, you could count on comfort food and conversation shared over her signature cup of tea. In the spirit of her nurturing demeanor, her gardens were beautiful; started from seeds, planted individually, and each year her yard became a beautiful park. With her big straw hat, she would love to walk around with visitors and admire something that brought her pure joy. Her love of all animals big and small was undeniable. From her many rescue dogs, feral cats, and all wildlife around her, she enjoyed feeding and caring for them, even if it were a family of skunks under her shed. Every one of them mattered to her. For Carol, things that brought her personal enjoyment were watching the UCONN women’s basketball games and attending live theatre at The Bushnell. She loved listening to her favorite music that included John Denver, ABBA, Simon and Garfunkel and all Broadway musical songs, just to name a few. She also loved having her annual 4th of July celebration at her home that included far too much food, volleyball, swimming, fireworks and the stresses of whether the septic tank would hold out for the day. The struggle was real. Carol was the queen of deals and passed her tricks on to many along the way. Couponing, grocery ads, rain checks, and trips to five different stores were always a weekly adventure. Lucky are those that were able to attend this weekly experience! Carol has left a legacy and cherished memories for all to hold dear. May you think of her with a smile, a laugh, and reflect on a moment you have shared together. She would want nothing less. “Think of me, think of me fondly when we’ve said goodbye” ~Phantom of the Opera The funeral services and burial will be private.
