James “Jimmy” Carter, 83, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Clark Memorial Hospital. Jimmy was with the Jeffersonville City Fire Department for 40 years; he achieved the rank of Battalion Major. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves for 6 years. He was on the Jeffersonville City Council and Utica Town Board. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing and fishing. He is survived by his sons Chris Carter and his wife Cheryl of Jeffersonville, IN, Chuck Carter and his wife Kari of Jeffersonville, IN, and John Carter and his wife Jennifer of Soddy Daisy, TN; daughter Elizabeth Nifong and her husband Scott of Utica, IN; brothers Larry Carter and his wife Christine of Paris Crossing, IN, and Jerry Carter of Scottsburg, IN; along with 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Donna Carter; father Fred Carter; mother Catherine Carter; grandson Nicholas Carter; granddaughter Katie Carter; brothers Tommy Carter and Kenny Carter; sister Wilma Royalty. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at E.M. Coots’ Sons Funeral Home with burial to follow at Utica Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 26, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service.
