Dean Allen Moe Obituary

Dean Allen Moe, 70, of Springfield, Oregon, passed away on November 10, 2021 peacefully in his sleep. Dean was born on December 22, 1950 to Cecilia and Edwin Moe in Grafton, North Dakota. His parents packed up their 5 sons and moved from the farm to Seattle Washington, when he was 13 years old. After graduating from Mountlake Terrace High School in 1968, he went on to join the AirForce and served overseas during the Vietnam War. Dean was a proud Vietnam Veteran and served in the Air Force from Sept. 1968 to Sept. 1972. He was stationed in Thailand, Texas, and Florida working as a jet mechanic. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for his heroism. After the service, he landed in management positions working for Denny’s Restaurants. Eventually he bought his own Denny’s Franchises throughout the west coast. Dean was an entrepreneur who also created mobile kitchens that earned contracts with the National Forest Service feeding firefighters during the summers. He met his high school sweetheart, Patricia Moffitt in 9th grade study hall. Dean and Patti married in 1969, going on to have two daughters, Jennifer and Melissa. While their marriage did not last forever, divorcing after 23 years of marriage, they reconnected in recent years and enjoyed spending time with each other, their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dean went on to marry Luz Almarez from 2001-2011. He loved her 3 daughters, Lulu (Anthony), Maria (Miguel), and Laura (Rich), the grandkids: Dalton, Blake, Maritza, Aaron, Elyse and Cara; and Luz’s extended family. Dean went on to have another relationship that did not last but created a close bond with children Rafael, Alondra, and Christopher Rodriguez. Dean talked of retiring but could not slow down and found new ideas and businesses to start. He could fix anything and was often found working on an engine, restaurant equipment, or whatever his daughters brought his way. Dean liked to fish, camp and visit his relatives in North Dakota. His kindness, generosity and caring spirit will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Dean was predeceased by his father and mother, brothers Dale and Ardell. He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer and Melissa, grandchildren Nolan and Haley, great grandchildren Theodore and Luna. Brothers Don (Cherie), Alan (Susan), sister-in-laws Lynne and Connie and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Meals on Wheels or The Wounded Warrior Project, charities that Dean supported.
