Dorothy Elizabeth Buhmeyer, 97, of Burlington, died Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Klein Center. Born, July 12, 1924 in rural Mediapolis, she was the daughter of Charles Benjamin & Martha Elizabeth (Glenn) Bailey. On October 13, 1950 Dorothy married Carl Buhmeyer in St. Charles MO. He died April 2, 1970. Dorothy graduated from Huron High School in 1941 and attended the College of Commerce Burlington Business School. For over 40 years she was the secretary for St John’s Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Cemetery. She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. Dorothy volunteered with many local organizations including Birthright, St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. She also enjoyed spending time singing with Bel Canto, in the church choir and participating in Mermaids. Dorothy enjoyed traveling, gardening, canning, cooking, and she was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Survivors include son, Charles (Mary) Buhmeyer of Burlington and daughter, Beth (Tim) Brown of Burlington; five grandchildren; Kristi Ervine of Linn Grove, IA, Nick (Jamie) Brown of Burlington, Travis (Jacquelyn) Buhmeyer of Iowa City, IA, Julie (Mitch Straw) Buhmeyer of Cedar Rapids, IA, Taylor (Courtney) Buhmeyer of Swisher, IA; six great grandchildren; Alexandria Ervine, Sophie, Daphne and Roy Brown, Hudson and Brooks Buhmeyer and Navy Pearl Buhmeyer; Sister Mary Ann Frank of Burlington; brother-in-law William Slight of Chicago, IL. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl, daughter Karen, and sister Marcia Slight. Mass of Christian burial will be at St. John’s Catholic Church on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 1:00 pm. Father James Flattery will officiate. Interment will be at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. There will be a Rosary beginning at 4:30pm with family visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, November 26, 2021 at Lunning Chapel.
