Roland H. Stewart

Roland H. “Jack” Stewart, 73, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Monday, November 22, 2021 in the Chambersburg Hospital after a five year battle with complications due to Parkinsonism Disease. Born April 1, 1948 in Nuremberg, Germany he was the son of the late Howard L. and Jacqueline M. (Gelas) Stewart. He was a graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School with the Class of 1966. Jack later went on to obtain his associate’s degree from Hagerstown Junior College. Jack served with the United States Army as a ranger and as an air traffic controller during the Vietnam War. He was employed as a management analyst at the Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg retiring in 2008 after 39 years. Jack was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He was a member of the Letterkenny Rod and Gun Club where he held many different offices throughout his lifetime, the Lone Star Hunting Club, as well as a bringing the Hunt of a Lifetime organization to the Letterkenny Army Depot. Jack was also a member of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post #1599, Chambersburg and the Chambersburg Pistol Club. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family and his dog, Sadie. He was also a softball umpire and football referee for 30 years. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Eunice (Brindle) Stewart who he married February 26, 1970; three children, Shane Stewart (Rozeann) of Shippensburg, PA, Christopher Stewart (Lisa) of Fayetteville, PA and Melissa Wampler (Larry) of Chambersburg; six grandchildren Dawna (Eric), Ethan, Rebecca, Cayley, Brenna and Brody; one great-granddaughter, Raegan; and a brother, Tyrone Stewart. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister, Patti Stewart. A memorial service will be held, 1:00 PM, Friday, December 3, 2021 in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Military honors will be conducted by the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 following the service in the funeral home parking lot. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM, Friday prior to the service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, 747 S. Fourth Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Jack and I worked together most of his 39 years, never a dull moment. He kept the office lively and was truly an outdoor lover. He was dedicated to the hunting program and did indeed bring the hunting program for disabled veterans to Letterkenny. He will not be forgotten... Continue Reading

I am so sorry to hear of Roland’s (as I knew him) passing. I have so many memories of playing with him and Tyrone as young kids in the south end of town, of Corpus Christi School, and of his sweet mother.
