David M. "Flounder" Truax Obituary

David Michael “Flounder” Truax,57, a lifelong resident of Weirton, passed away at the Weirton Medical Center on November 15, 2021. David was born in Weirton, WV, on May 28, 1964, the youngest of three children born to Charles W. “Bill” and Martha AnnisTruax, Sr. David graduated from Weirton Madonna High School in the Class of 82. In his freshman year at Madonna, the movie Animal House was a box office hit. As a result, the senior Class during initiation week gave Dave the nickname “Flounder.” Dave embraced his nickname and instantly became one of the favorites, most popular kids in the school. After graduation from high school, Flounder made a career as a layout artist at his brother-in-law’s business DePaul Printing. In recent years, Dave had more than his share of health issues originating from diabetes mellitus. A talented and creative writer, Dave was able to keep in touch with his friends and family through social media. As a result, many friends and former classmates would look forward to Flounder’s inspirational posts on Facebook. Dave’s positive attitude continued with him his entire life. His extraordinarily kind and compassionate nature helped cheer up all others that were around him. Like in high school, Dave’s attitude made him the most lovable patient in all of the nursing care facilities where he recently resided. Dave was preceded in death by his father in 1982, his mother in 2008, and his sister. Deborah Cope in 2015. Flounder will be remembered with love by his brother, Charles W. Truax, Jr. of Lowville, NY, his nephew, who he lived with, Alan Cope of Weirton, WV; his classmates from the Weirton Madonna Class of 1982, including Rich Pellegrino, Vince Stonebraker, MD, Mark Kaczmarek, Bill Deerfield, and Mark Varitek; he is also survived by his good friend, Monica Kalonick Osteen and her son, Drew. Dave’s wish was to be cremated. To honor Dave please do an act of kindness or share a positive thought with others. Share tributes at www.grecohertnick.com
