<p style="text-align: center;">LARRY G. SPENCER</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Larry G. Spencer, age 73, passed away November 20 at Labette Health in Parsons, Kansas.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Larry was born in Independence, Kansas, on December 15, 1947, to Lee and Maude Spencer, the youngest of seven children.&nbsp; He attended Independence schools, graduating from Independence High School in 1966.&nbsp; He took classes at Independence Community until he was drafted into the United&nbsp; States Army, serving his country for two years and achieving the rank of Spec/ 5.&nbsp;&nbsp; He married Linda Hybarger on October 9, 1970, then finished his stint in the military and returned to Independence.&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Larry worked at Independence Bottling Company while completing his education at Pittsburg State University.&nbsp; In 1974 he began employment at First Federal Savings and Loan, his sole employer for the remainder of his career.&nbsp; Larry&#39;s job training included learning every position at First Federal.&nbsp; At the time of his retirement he held the title of President and CEO.&nbsp; He retired after working there for over 30 years.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; During his working years, Larry held membership in the local Jaycee organization, Junior Achievement, Lions Club, Rotary Club and the Independence Country Club, serving on its board.&nbsp; He also was elected a board member of the Heartland Community Bankers Association and once held the seat as chairman of that board.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Family members who preceded him in death include his parents and five of his siblings:&nbsp; Don, Max, Bill, DeAnn, and Sue.&nbsp; His older sister Ila Wuerdeman survives in Lawrence, Kansas.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Other surviving family members include his wife, Linda, and their three children:&nbsp; Amy (Shane) Wade of Pittsburg, Kansas; Matthew (Diane) Spencer of Independence, Kansas; and Jonathan Spencer of Overland Park, Kansas.&nbsp; In addition, the following grandchildren will carry on his legacy:&nbsp; Emma, Katelyn and Tyler Spencer of Independence and Spencer and Allie Wade of Pittsburg.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; A Celebration of Life will be held at the Independence Country Club on his birthday, December 15, following the 11:00 graveside service and burial at Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of Webb and Rodrick Funeral Home.&nbsp; The family suggests memorials be sent to the Leukemia &amp; Lymphoma Society, 6811 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Suite 202, Overland Park, Kansas 66202</p>

LARRY G. SPENCER

 

            Larry G. Spencer, age 73, passed away November 20 at Labette Health in Parsons, Kansas.

            Larry was born in Independence, Kansas, on December 15, 1947, to Lee and Maude Spencer, the youngest of seven children.  He attended Independence schools, graduating from Independence High School in 1966.  He took classes at Independence Community until he was drafted into the United  States Army, serving his country for two years and achieving the rank of Spec/ 5.   He married Linda Hybarger on October 9, 1970, then finished his stint in the military and returned to Independence.
