Shirley Severson, age 82, of Clear Lake, SD passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the Deuel County Good Samaritan Society in Clear Lake. Funeral service will be at 11:00a.m. on Tuesday, November 30th at the East Highland Lutheran Church, rural Brandt, SD. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7p.m. on Monday, November 29th at the Houseman Funeral Home in Clear Lake and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Shirley Ann Severson was born on June 10, 1939 to Thor and Hazel (Johnson) Iverson. She was raised in rural Gary, SD and she graduated from Clear Lake High School. On March 20, 1960 Shirley was united in marriage to Clinton O’Dell Severson at the East Highland Lutheran Church. To this union they were blessed with three children: Ricky, Rhonda and Tracy. Together they raised their family on the Severson family dairy farm where Shirley fed the calves and helped out wherever she could being a good farmers wife. She also worked off the farm after the kids were grown at the Westside Café and later for the Deuel County Memorial Hospital and now Sanford as a housekeeper and a nurses aid. Shirley enjoyed bowling and going to the races in Brookings, Watertown and occasionally at the SD State Fair in Huron. Watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings was also something she enjoyed throughout the years. Selling Avon and delivering the Coteau Shopper for numerous years was something she was proud of and enjoyed. Time spent with family and friends meant the world to Shirley especially being called "Grandma Great" by her great-grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of the East Highland Lutheran Church where she was involved with Ladies Aid. She was also a member of Lutheran Brotherhood and Prairie Neighbors Extension Club. Grateful for having shared Shirley’s life is her husband of 61 years, Clinton Severson; her children: Ricky (Jodi) Severson, Gary, SD, Rhonda (Jon) Weeks, Ellsworth, Maine and Tracy (Roxane) Severson, Watertown, SD; her grandchildren: Ryan (Casey) Severson, Nicki (Scott) Bauman, Jack Weeks, Jeff Weeks, Misty (Matt) Bekaert, Dustin Schlosser, Tanner Severson, Taylor (Alex Sumption) Severson; her great-grandchildren: Griffin, Graci and Molly Severson, Skylar, Matte and Evan Bauman, Destiny and Lee Bekaert and Lincoln Schlosser; sister-in-Law LaVonne (Loren) Severson; brother-in-Law Arnie Severson and her best friends Shirley Peterson and Cherie Ruhd. She is preceded in death by her parents and her in-laws, Clarence and Alta Severson and sister-in-law, Karin Severson.
