Opal McGinnis Obituary

Mrs. Opal McGinnis of McConnell departed this life to be with her heavenly Father on Saturday, November 20, 2021 following a long illness. Opal was born on June 19, 1936 in Yolyn, she was the daughter of the late Squire and Naomi Hall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Howard McGinnis, mother-in-law Helen McGinnis, father-in-law Elmer McGinnis, sisters Garnet Fleming, Betty Desplaines, Janice Sergent and brothers Billie Hall and Alfred Hall. Opal was member of Union 1559 in which she helped organize, and worked as a school bus driver for 22 ½ years for the Logan County Board of Education. She enjoyed this position very much and loved working with the students. Opal was a faithful member of the McConnell Tabernacle, until her illness prevented her from attending. She drove the Church Van. She was a terrific cook with her famous baked spaghetti, preparing snacks for youth night and helping with many activities at the church. She enjoyed a long-lasting relationship with her sisters and brothers in Christ many of which have also gone on to be with the Lord. Opal loved to travel specifically to Daytona Beach. She also was adamant on getting her hair done every Saturday, and loved shopping. Opal is survived by two children, Daughter Judy and favorite son in law John Turner of Chapmanville, and son Harold Lee (Elise) McGinnis of Ormond Beach, FL, granddaughters Jenna (Nick) Brumfield of Chapmanville, Amy (Mark) Annon of Ormond Beach, Fl and Katie McGinnis of Orlando, FL, and grandsons Justin Turner of Chapmanville and Danny (Caitlyn) McGinnis of Ormond Beach, FL., great grandchildren Morgan, Avery, and Micah Annon, Macy and Maverick McGinnis all of Ormond Beach, Florida and Baby Mila Brumfield coming January 1, 2022, sisters Patty Tanner of WI and Sandra Kay Preece of Hamlin, WV, and Opals best friend and neighbor Mary Hager. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the McConnell Tabernacle in McConnell with Rev. Keith McClung and Randy Skeens officiating. Opal will be laid to rest beside her husband at Highland Memory Gardens. Friends may call on the family on Saturday from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Honaker Funeral Home in Logan. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donation of a Bible in memory of Opal from the Gideons International or donate directly to McConnell Tabernacle Church. Pallbearers Danny McGinnis, Justin Turner, John Turner, and Nick Brumfield, Jonathan Godby. Honaker Funeral Home of Logan has been entrusted with the arrangements.
