James Lester Lowry Obituary

A graveside services will be held Saturday, November 27, at 1:30pm for Mr. James Lester Lowry, age 68, at Highland Cemetery in Hattiesburg, MS on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. Mr. Lowry passed from this life at Merit Wesley Hospital after a brief illness on November 18, 2021. Interment will be conducted by Mr. Mike Smith. Mr. Lowry was a lifelong Christian who practiced the Baptist Faith. He graduated from Hattiesburg High School where he had a successful sports career. He then attended college at William Carey and played baseball, and later went into the Air Force for 14 years. He was an avid supporter of Dixie Youth Baseball and umpired for many years for them. He enjoyed all sports, but baseball was his favorite. He touched the lives of many through sports. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh with friends. He loved to attend any and all sporting events that he could. Mr. Lowry became disabled several years ago and became mostly home bound, but continued to follow all the local and national sports throughout the remainder of his life. Mr. Lowry was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Annis Raddin Lowry; father, Vernie Hanes Lowry, older brother, Gary Hanes Lowry; older sister, Mary Beth Lowry Massengale; niece, Kaylie Michele Sterud; and his son, Phillip Lowry. Survivors include his son, Alan Lowry of Kentucky; oldest brother, James E. Carter of Tallahassee, FL; niece, Reagan Andrews of Purvis, MS; nephew, Jay Lowry of Hattiesburg, MS; and several great nieces and nephews. Honorariums may be sent to the Hattiesburg Dixie Youth Scholarship Program at P.O. Box 211 Hattiesburg, MS 30403.
