East Liverpool, Ohio- Irene Sjoblom Jackson, 96, of Parkway passed away Sunday, November 21st, 2021 at 11:45 p.m. at The Orchards of East Liverpool following a brief illness. Born December 1st, 1924 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late John and Sylvie Sjoblom. Her parents emigrated to Pittsburgh from Helsinki, Finland prior to World War I. Irene and her younger sister, Esther were raised in Glassport, Pennsylvania where her father worked for the U.S. Government and her mother for the National Glass Company. Irene graduated from Glassport High School in 1942 and then obtained her R.N. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. Irene was a lifelong member of the Helen Gould Literary Club, The Monday Club, The Women’s Axillary at East Liverpool City Hospital and was active in several area bridge clubs. She belonged to The East Liverpool Country Club for 70 years. She loved entertaining and visiting with her many friends at her home. An avid traveler, she and her husband had been to every state in the United States, all across Canada and taken many trips to Europe and the Far East. Both Irene and Fraser were lifelong members and supporters of the East Liverpool community. They dedicated many years in service to area hospitals and the Trinity Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. J. Fraser Jackson M.D., whom she married October 20, 1947 after their meeting while working at West Penn Hospital, on March 8th, 2015 and by her daughter, Anne Irene Jackson on February 3rd, 2014. Her sister, Esther Letzler passed away earlier this year as well. Survivors include two sons, David Jackson and his wife, Sarah of Los Angeles, California and Robert Jackson and his wife, Christine of Hot Springs, Arkansas. In addition, she also leaves behind one brother-in-law, John Dale Jackson and his wife, Alberta of Naples, Florida. Friends may visit the family on Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home in East Liverpool, Ohio. Elder Tom Enochs of Longs Run Presbyterian Church will officiate a funeral service at 4:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
