Joesphine Gilarski Obituary

GILARSKI: Josephine Gilarski. September 1, 1920 - November 18, 2021.

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Joey Gilarski, nee Bachinski, at the age of 101 on November 18, 2021 with family by her side.

Joey was born September 1, 1920 in Brandon, Manitoba. She married August Gilarski on October 5, 1940, raised 2 daughters (Connie, Carolyn) and 2 nieces (Marlene and Janice). She worked over 30 years at Reesor’s Jewelers. Outside of work she enjoyed travelling, was a part of the Catholic Women's League at St. Hedwig's Church, and an active member at St. Augustine's Church. She loved gardening in her award-winning flower garden and took pride in her begonias. She also loved baking, knitting and doing crafts. Her greatest love was preparing Sunday dinners for family and having them all together. She will forever be loved and missed by all who knew her.

Joey is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Gurr (Barry); sister-in-law, Mildred Gareau; son-in-law, Frank Gudz; grandchildren: Rick Gudz (Wendy), Wendy McComb (Earl), Todd Gudz (Kerri-Lynn), Jill Boychuk, Heather Gurr (Tim), Adam Gurr (Laura), Haley Gurr (Myron), and Julie Watt; great-grandchildren: Chelsey Gaiser (Josh), Keaton Gudz, Carson and Bryce McComb, Jackson, Karlyn and Mitchell Gudz, Brooklyn and Blake Boychuk, Samuel, Audrey, John Henry, and Simon Gurr, Mya and William Campbell, Mateo and Iris Watt, and Sage Racine. Beloved niece, Marlene Shurb, Mark Shurb (Debbie) daughter Jennifer (daughter Kylie), Jayson Gramchuk (Cheryl) daughters Amanda and Jaylynne, Kurt Gramchuk (Megan), Taylor and Amanda Shurb.

She is predeceased by her husband Gus of 63 years, daughter Connie Gudz, her parents Agnes and Michael Bachinski, 3 brothers John, Frank, and Carl, 2 sisters Rose, Nell, their spouses, nieces and nephews, and extended family Janice Birin, Louis Shurb, and David Shurb.

Joey also considered the staff at Dinsdale Personal Care Home as an extension of her family. We would like to express a sincere thank you for your kindness and compassionate care over the last 11 years, especially the last few days leading up to Joey's passing.

Due to COVID restrictions, a private Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Joey’s immediate family.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joey may be made to the Samaritan House Ministries, 820 Pacific Ave., Brandon, MB, R7A 0J1.
