Patrick Joseph Penney Obituary

PENNEY Patrick Joseph March 17, 1946 – November 21, 2021 Passed away at the James Paton memorial Health Centre, Gander on Sunday November 21, 2021 Patrick Joseph Penney at the age of 75 years. Born to parents, Philip & Helen Penney, Patrick Joseph Penney would arrive on March 17, 1946. He was the first of 6 children, and was initially going to take the name Philip, however his parents named him Patrick hence the other occasion on his birthday – St. Patrick’s Day… the name fit. His first years were spent on the Army side at Gander, eventually moving to 145 Elizabeth Drive in the new town site. From an early age, Paddy (as he was known to his friends) had a yearning for sports, especially hockey. He would go on to play for the Grand Falls Cataracts in the NFLD Senior Hockey League, eventually playing 6 years with the Gander Flyers, winning a Herder in 1969, a first for the town of Gander. Throughout his years of childhood and through his teens, he would become a great older brother, someone the family looked up to. Family above all, was his true passion – raising three children and in the years to follow, 6 grandchildren. He would eventually fulfill his greatest wish – becoming the greatest Pop ever! His six grandkids were his life! His daily routine included seeing them play sports, and giving them rides to wherever they were going and throughout the years taking them on trips. His last days were spent talking about the grandkid's jobs, schooling and day to day activities. His daily routine before his sickness included attending hockey & baseball games; visiting the grandkids daily and throughout the years numerous trips across the island. He was predeceased by his parents Philip & Helen Penney; sister Doreen Loughlin (nee Penney); brother Brenden Penney and his precious daughter Erinn. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 51 years Gloria; son Paddy; daughter Noleen (Keith); brothers: Philip (Eileen), Sean (Stephany); sister Sharon (Doug); brother-in-law Charlie (Gemma) and a large extended family and many friends. Family will be receiving friends at Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander on Wednesday November 24, 2021 from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place from St. Josephs Roman Catholic Church on Thursday November 25, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Father William Hearn with interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery.
