Doris Anderson, age 91, of rural Toronto, SD passed away at her home on Saturday, November 20, 2021. Memorial service will be at 2pm on Sunday, November 28th at Leganger Lutheran Church in Toronto. Visitation will be Friday, November 26th at the Houseman Visitation Chapel in Toronto from 5 to 7pm and will resume one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the church. Inurnment will be at the Toronto City Cemetery. Houseman Funeral Home of Clear Lake is entrusted with the arrangements. Doris Geraldine Anderson was born in Castlewood, South Dakota to Arthur and Lila (Parliament) Smith. She was raised and educated in Clear Lake, SD. Doris was united in marriage to Ernest Anderson on March 7, 1947 and together the spent 11 years in California until they finally settled on a farm near Toronto. They were blessed with three children: Lana, Gary and Jeffery that they raised together on their farm. She enjoyed cooking and reading cookbooks. Doris also enjoyed gardening and raising flowers. She loved showing her garden and flowers to anyone who stopped by the farm, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she cherished. Writing thousands of letters to friends and family throughout the years was something she enjoyed, especially when she received a letter back like she always expected. Working the night shift at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center for 18 years was something that she truly enjoyed. Time spent with family and friends meant the world to her. She was a member of Leganger Lutheran Church and was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 25 years. Grateful for having shared Doris’ life are her children: Lana (Fred) Krogman of Sioux Falls, Gary Anderson of Toronto and Jeffrey (Terese) Anderson of Toronto; six grandchildren: Bryan (Tina) Krogman, Kristi (Kirby) Proehl, Kelli (Art) Wesman, Jenna (Ross) Sutter, Wynter Anderson and Brandon (Elizabeth Schaar) Anderson; eight great-grandchildren: Tyler Krogman, Jacob Wesman, Caitlyn Krogman, Mason Proehl, Mara Wesman, Emma Proehl and Baby Boy Sutter on the way; one brother, Donald (Linda) Smith of Clear Lake. She is preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Lila Smith; her husband, Ernest and one brother, Richard Smith.
