Margie Ann McCollum Obituary

Margie was born in Reno, Nevada on April 23, 1933 to Herman L. Meyer and Margaret E. Meyer (Bourke). At 88 years, Margie passed away very peacefully on Tuesday, November 16th in Sparks, Nevada, surrounded by her loving children. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Raymond Lee McCollum, grandchild David Jon Dudley, and son-in-law James Clapp. They must have made up the choir singing “Alleluia” that she heard shortly before she passed into the Lord’s hands. In their early years, Margie & Ray really enjoyed square dancing with the local club; the Twirl-a-Ways and “going out on the town” dancing with long-time friends Bob & Arlene Crain and Chubby & Bernice McCollum. When Ray & Margie danced it was if nobody else was on the dance floor. After Ray’s retirement from A.T. & T., Margie & Ray enjoyed travelling up and down the West coast discovering and exploring new Thousand Trails Parks and making new friends. Since the time of Ray’s death in 2012, Margie longed to be with Ray and spoke often of being re-united with him. Margie was the proud mother of her five children; Raymond J. McCollum (Diane), Deanna Kennedy (Robert), Rachelle Clapp (Jim), Karen Hamlin (Danny), and Rev. Paul McCollum. Margie was Grandma to seven grandchildren; and great grandmother to nine great-grandchildren. She was a great cook, devoted wife and home-maker, and amazing mother! Mom will be missed terribly even as we trust that she rests now with God. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Paul at Immaculate Conception Church in Sparks on Monday, November 22nd at 1pm and she will be buried alongside her beloved husband, Ray, at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Cemetery later in the day. You may find the livestream Mass on Facebook or Youtube at “Immaculate Conception Sparks”. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to: St. Jude Children's Hospital (stjude.org) or SPCA of Northern Nevada (spcanevada.org).
