Helen Licata Hamilton, Ontario Obituary

Helen Licata

Helen Marjorie Licata Helen was called to be with the Lord on Friday November 19, 2021. Cherished mother of Sean (Kathy) Licata. Loving Nana to Nancy, Pamela, and Craig Licata. Helen will be sadly missed by her sisters Leonora Cutaia and Marjorie (Bill) Kamula. Predeceased by her loving husband Charlie, brothers Paul Daly and John Francis Daly, sisters Ann Cupido and Marion Cavasin, brothers-in-law Angelo Cutaia, Harry Licata, Mario Cupido, sisters-in-law Madelyn Daly, Maggie Licata, and Mary Daly. Helen is survived by a large and very close-knit family. Helen was one of seven children, and over her 93 years, the family has grown to 139 people including Charlie, Sean, Kathy, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, great (and great-great) nieces and nephews. Helen lived a great and happy life filled with joy and happiness. She never failed to impress those she met as a gentle soul filled with kindness. Her happy demeanor was due to her happy childhood, her wonderful 49-year marriage to her loving husband Charlie, her loving family, her years working in accounting at St Joseph’s Hospital, and her strong Catholic faith. Helen was a founding parishioner of Regina Mundi parish. She was also very proud of her service with the Catholic Women’s League – where she held several executive positions including president of the CWL. Helen joined the CWL in 1946 and was honoured to receive her pin commemorating her 75 years of service - an amazing accomplishment. Helen also proudly served as a Eucharistic minister at the parish for many years. Later in life, Helen resided at Villa Italia Retirement home. She enjoyed her time at the Villa, fondly remembering ice cream Tuesdays (often coinciding with a visit from her brother-in-law Mario), bingo (where she would frequently win a loonie), art projects, exercise classes, holiday celebrations and much more. The staff and residents at Villa Italia meant a lot to Helen, and she appreciated the loving care and support they gave her. She loved watching her grandchildren grow into the wonderful adults they are today. Helen was able to spend substantial time with Nancy, Pamela, and Craig, teaching them about life and joy, and taking long vacations to visit them when they lived in Florida, Texas, and Massachusetts. She was especially pleased when Sean, Kathy and the kids moved back to Canada. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Mino Mitri and the entire medical team at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Helen worked at the hospital for many years and was comforted to also spend her last days in a such a familiar and caring place. The family will receive friends at P.X. DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 796 Upper Gage Ave. (between Mohawk and Fennell) on Tuesday November 23, 2021 from 2-4p.m. and 6-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Regina Mundi Catholic Church (631 Mohawk Road West.) on Wednesday November 24, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. For those wishing to attend the Visitation or Funeral Mass you must RSVP below or by calling 905-388-4141. Those in attendance must wear a mask and maintain social distancing. A reception in celebration of Helen’s life for family and friends will be held at Marquis Gardens (1050 Rymal Road East, Hamilton) following the Interment. The family requests that all guests at the reception be fully vaccinated. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen's memory can be made to Sisters of the Precious Blood.
