<p><strong>Charlene Mae Schafer was born to Otto and Rebecca (Parde) Hesterman on May 14, 1934 in Sterling, Nebraska.&nbsp;&nbsp;She grew up in the Sterling area and was baptized and confirmed at St. John&rsquo;s Lutheran Church in Sterling.&nbsp;&nbsp;Charlene graduated from Sterling High School, attended Peru State College for&nbsp;two years and then taught in a rural country school in Johnson County.&nbsp;</strong></p> <p><strong>She was united in marriage to Eugene Schafer on June 20, 1954 at St. John&rsquo;s Lutheran Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska.&nbsp;&nbsp;To this union two children were born, Charles and Sharilee. In 1958, the couple moved to a farm near Fort Collins, Colorado.&nbsp;&nbsp;The returned to Nebraska and moved to a farm near Elk Creek in 1963 where they raised their family.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1984, Eugene and Charlene left Nebraska and lived in Las Vegas, NV for a year, Morton, TX for two years and then settled in California in 1987. Eugene passed in California on October 23, 2011.&nbsp;&nbsp;Charlene and Eugene were members of St. John&rsquo;s Lutheran Church, Tecumseh and later transferred to Faith Lutheran Church in Joshua Tree, CA.&nbsp;</strong></p> <p><strong>Charlene was a farmwife and homemaker, 4-H leader, and member of the Elk Creek area extension club.&nbsp;&nbsp;She loved children and babysat for families in both Nebraska and California.&nbsp; Charlene enjoyed&nbsp;sewing and always had a large garden and did a lot of canning while on the farm.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was the book keeper for Eugene and Charles&rsquo; swimming pool business in California.&nbsp;&nbsp;Charlene dearly loved her grandchildren-even though there were many miles between them.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She will be deeply missed by those who knew her.&nbsp;</strong></p> <p><strong>Charlene passed away November 15, 2021 at her home in Morongo Valley, CA at the age of 87 years.</strong></p> <p><strong>She is survived by her son Charles Schafer of Morongo Valley, CA, daughter and son-in-law, Shari and Steve Siepelmeier of Syracuse, grandson Blaine Siepelmeier and wife Jessica of Lincoln, granddaughter Brittany Eggerling and husband Chase of Milford, great-grandson Connor Siepelmeier, sister-in-law, Marilyn Jimenez of Las Vegas, NV and several nieces and nephews.</strong></p> <p><strong>Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Eugene and brother-in-law Jim Jimenez.</strong></p> <p><strong>Private family graveside services will be held in the Tecumseh Cemetery at a later date.&nbsp;</strong></p> <p><strong>Memorials may go to the family&rsquo;s choice in care of the family.</strong></p> <p><strong>Online condolences may be left @ www.wherrymortuary.com.</strong></p>

Charlene Mae Schafer was born to Otto and Rebecca (Parde) Hesterman on May 14, 1934 in Sterling, Nebraska.  She grew up in the Sterling area and was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sterling.  Charlene graduated from Sterling High School, attended Peru State College for two years and then taught in a rural country school in Johnson County. 

She was united in marriage to Eugene Schafer on June 20, 1954 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  To this union two children were born, Charles and Sharilee. In 1958, the couple moved to a farm near Fort Collins, Colorado.  The returned to Nebraska and moved to a farm near Elk Creek in 1963 where they raised their family.  In 1984, Eugene and Charlene left Nebraska and lived in Las Vegas, NV for a year, Morton, TX for two years and then settled in California in 1987. Eugene passed in California on October 23, 2011.  Charlene and Eugene were members of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Tecumseh and later transferred to Faith Lutheran Church in Joshua Tree, CA.

She is survived by her son Charles Schafer of Morongo Valley, CA, daughter and son-in-law, Shari and Steve Siepelmeier of Syracuse, grandson Blaine Siepelmeier and wife Jessica of Lincoln, granddaughter Brittany Eggerling and husband Chase of Milford, great-grandson Connor Siepelmeier, sister-in-law, Marilyn Jimenez of Las Vegas, NV and several nieces and nephews.

Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Eugene and brother-in-law Jim Jimenez.

Private family graveside services will be held in the Tecumseh Cemetery at a later date. 

Memorials may go to the family’s choice in care of the family.
