Philippe Rene Andre Clerc Obituary

Philippe Rene Andre Clerc, 73, passed away peacefully from cancer with his family by his side on November 14, 2021.

Philippe was born on October 2, 1948 in Suresnes, France to Maurice and Vivienne  (Serra) Clerc.

His adventurous spirit took him to the United States in 1972, where he explored the  Lower 48 states. The call of Alaska brought him to Fairbanks in 1974, and he began his new adventure working on the pipeline out of the Laborers Union Local 942. The beauty of the 49th state captured his heart, and Alaska became his forever home.  He started his career in public transportation in Barrow in 1979, retiring in 2016 from  MACS Transit in Fairbanks.

Most days you’d find Philippe outdoors, exploring any trail he could find with his dog, Jolie, his constant companion. He was an avid cyclist and spent the summer months riding his bike all over Fairbanks. One of his memorable journeys, and source for many stories, was when he cycled from San Francisco, California to Jacksonville, Florida.

On winter days, you’d find him skiing, whether it be downhill or cross-country.  Philippe joined the Ski Land Ski Patrol in 2000, which quickly became his second  home. He was known for his quick wit, corny jokes, infectious smile, and kind and compassionate spirit. Philippe’s biggest accomplishment and source of pride and joy  was being a father and grandfather.

Philippe was proceeded in death by his mother and father, brothers Jean-Francois,  Jacques, and Richard.

He is survived by his children Sebastien Ahyakak-Clerc, Fabienne (Abe) Siddall, Pascale Clerc, grandchildren Kristen, Burnell, Avrianna, and Avila, sisters Elisabeth  (Philippe) Quesnay and Sylvie Clerc, nieces and nephews Julie Quesnay, Caroline  Quesnay, Antoine (Florence) Drancey, Celine Drancey and their children in France.

The family would like to thank Dr. Cox, PA Browning and staff at Fairbanks Cancer  Center, Dr. Johnson, Dr. Pemmaraju and staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center in  Houston, Texas, Fairbanks Hospice Care, and his many friends for their outpouring of  love and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Ski Land Ski Patrol.

Please join us to celebrate his life at 2 PM on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at the  Taiga Room located in Wedgewood Resort. Following the service, we will honor him  with a lighted walk along the trails and woods that he dearly loved.

We will forever miss you and will strive to honor your life by living ours to the fullest.
