Russell "Rusty" Lurvey Obituary

Russell “Rusty” Thomas Lurvey, born in Oshkosh (August 21, 1973), raised in Three Lakes, and schooled in Minneapolis, Rusty lived a fulfilling 25 years in Eagle River with his wife, children, friends and community. He shared a deep, boundless 30-year love with his wife, Elizabeth (née Gaffney) and a 25-year marriage. Together, they were a team that positively impacted their children, family and neighbors. They had many plans for their life together before Rusty died suddenly of a stroke. Rusty’s authentic spirit and winsome character will always shine through his children, Max (20), Lucy (19), and Nolan (17). In the last weeks of his physical life, he felt even greater joy and pride for all his kids. He expressed gratitude for being able to have mature conversations with Max who represents his thoughtful nature with assuredness; how excited he was to watch Lucy compete in her first college softball games and pursue a sport she loves at another level; and his supreme confidence and enthusiasm for Nolan with his upcoming basketball season. Rusty will always be adored by his mother: Mary Jo Lurvey; father: Steve Lurvey; and father-in-law: Tom Gaffney. Rusty’s legendary commitment to family and brotherhood will be carried on by his birth siblings: George and Jordan Lurvey, and his siblings through marriage: Carolyn Lurvey (née Pitlik), Sam Lurvey (née Snyder), Sarah (née Gaffney) and Brian Bechard, Ted and Juli (née Bressanelli) Gaffney, and Theresa Gaffney. Uncle Rusty will always be cherished by his nieces and nephews for his fun, engaging nature and his genuine interest in their lives: Sydney, Ellie, and Levi Lurvey; Easton, Hudson and Klay Lurvey; Eli and Jonah Bechard; Jack, Lindsey, and Luke Gaffney. Rusty was a standout athlete and respected coach. He was a Jack of All Trades and Master of One. He had a goal to do improv comedy, but already was a standup comedian for whomever was his audience. His greatest gift to everyone was his utter selflessness. His family would like him to be remembered for how he graciously gave of himself without reserve and full of love. A funeral service will be at 12 noon on Friday November 19, 2021 at the St. Germain Evangelical Free Church. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Interment will be at St. Peter Cemetery. Memorials can be made his family c/o Liz Lurvey.
