George E. Nelsen

Passed away peacefully from Alzheimer's disease on November 14, 2021. George was born in Chicago, IL to Pearl and Emil Nelsen. He was raised on a farm in Richmond, New Hampshire before the family relocated to St. Paul. George met and married his high school sweetheart of 66 years, Mary, at Harding High School on the eastside of St. Paul. While on the eastside they raised their 5 children, Sherry, Don (Song), Tracy, David (Mary), Dan (Sheila); also survived by 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren. Army veteran-served in Korea, retired after 36yrs at Burlington Northern RR. In his youth he was a golden gloves boxer and an avid golfer in retirement. In his retirement years George also volunteered his time at the St. Paul Cathedral and proudly served as a Rifle Squad member at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Past member of the N. St. Paul American Legion Post 39. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30AM, Tuesday, November 23 at Transfiguration Catholic Church (6133 15th St. N., Oakdale). Visitation one hour prior to start of service Tuesday at church. Private burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials preferred to the Fort Snelling Rifle Squad.
