<p><strong><span style="font-size:18px;">Mikhail Shmidt </span></strong></p> <p><strong><span style="font-size:18px;">January 30, 1932 - November 14, 2021</span></strong></p> <p> </p> <p><strong><span style="font-size:18px;">Mikhail Shmidt passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 14th at Hebrew Rehabilitation Center in Boston, MA. He is survived by his wife Stella, his daughter Luba and son-in-law Sergey, his son Ilya and daughter-in-law Svetlana, his grandchildren Mark, Matthew, Alexander and Veronika.</span></strong></p> <p> </p> <p><strong><span style="font-size:18px;">Mikhail was born on January 30 1932 in Leningrad, USSR. Though he did not have any siblings he grew up with his cousins Marianna, Lyudmila, Zhoressa, Alexander, Berta, Victoria and others, who were like sisters and brothers to him. He attended school in Leningrad and then went on to graduate from the Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute with high honors. Throughout school and university, he made many friends, some of whom became his lifelong friends like Viktor, Alexei, Yakov and Simon. </span></strong></p> <p> </p> <p><strong><span style="font-size:18px;">Through one of his close friends he met his wife Stella. After they married in May 1963, they had a son and a daughter. To his children he passed on some of his best qualities: his sense of humor, his unbound creativity, his studiousness, intellectual curiosity and his love for nature and animals.</span></strong></p> <p> </p> <p><strong><span style="font-size:18px;">After university he went on to become a naval engineer. He worked at several research institutes and has won the admiration of all of his coworkers, some of whom also became his close lifelong friends. He got his PhD in 1972.</span></strong></p> <p> </p> <p><strong><span style="font-size:18px;">In 2002 he retired and in 2006 moved to Boston, Massachusetts with his wife to be closer to his daughter and to his grandchildren. While in Boston, he greatly enjoyed the New England nature and loved spending summers on the Cape. He also greatly enjoyed visits to New York City with friends and family. He visited his grandchildren's graduation ceremonies and was very proud of them.</span></strong></p> <p> </p> <p><strong><span style="font-size:18px;">Mikhail lived a great remainder of his life in the United States for 15 years, where he passed. He is remembered as a devoted husband, a caring brother, a loving father and grandfather, and a great friend.
