Obituary

Warren Dennis Chambers Jr., 78, of New Hartford, succumbed on Wed., Nov. 10, 2021, to injuries received in a cycling accident.  Warren was the son of Leila (Doty) and Warren Chambers Sr.  He is survived by his wife Pamela (Whitney) Chambers, daughter Kim Winzler, son-in-law Mark Winzler, brother Alan Chambers, sisters-in-law Pat Pearson and Doreen Whitney, brothers-in-law Bill Pearson and Richard Whitney, niece Shana Bridge, nephews Brad Chambers, Eric Pearson and Kyle Pearson and three great nephews.  Warren was predeceased by his parents and son Derek T. Chambers.

Born in Torrington on Aug. 25, 1943, Warren was a graduate of Harwinton Consolidated School and Oliver Wolcott Technical School.  From 1962 – 1965 he served in the Navy as Engineman 3rd class aboard the USS Lorain County LST 1177.  Warren worked as a machinist at T.M. Perry Co. in Canton, the Torrington Co. and Timken Corp. in Torrington where he programed and operated computerized lathes.  Following his retirement from Timken, Warren worked as a driver’s helper for UPS, a machinist at Ray Machine Corp. and delivered Meals on Wheels for the Sullivan Senior Center in Torrington.

Warren was an avid cyclist; amongst his proud accomplishments are several week long, cross-state and “Century” rides. In 2008 Warren accomplished one of his “bucket list” items by riding his bike across the country from Virginia to Oregon.

Over the years Warren enjoyed a variety of other sports from drag racing his ’66 and ’70 GTO’s to softball, ten pin bowling at Sky Top Lanes in both the Merchant and Father- Daughter Leagues as well as downhill skiing and snowshoeing.  He also loved to hike with his dear friends on many of the trails in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Everyone who knew Warren will remember his winning smile, his analytical mind, his ever present jokes and his “gift of gab”.  He also had a willingness to help friends and strangers alike and made friends and connections wherever he went.  Warren will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Warren’s friends are researching having a bench placed along the Farmington Valley Rails to Trails bike path in his memory. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation toward this bench.  For further information and updates on this project, please go to pjwc1987@gmail.com.
