Dorothy Jean Aylsworth, 94, of Platte City, MO, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at St. Luke’s North Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Dorothy Jean was born on July 10, 1927 in Adrian, MO to Thomas Jefferson Ross and Lena Mae Woods Ross Salmons. She graduated from Appleton City High School in Appleton City, MO in 1945. She married Clarence William Aylsworth a year later, on October 20, 1946 in Harrisonville, MO. Shortly after marriage, they moved to Lebanon, MO, where they lived for 18 years before moving to Platte City. Dorothy Jean was a member of the First Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School both in Lebanon and Platte City. She was very active in the church, volunteering at every opportunity. She worked for Ferrellgas Propane Company in Platte City for 27 years, and later volunteered with Hillcrest Ministries. She was an avid gardener, and everyone admired her roses. She also liked to sew and crochet, and go trout fishing in Bennet Springs State Park. Wanting to work, but also spend time with her family, she helped start Blakemore Lure Company from her home, and also did color tinting of black and white photographs. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings Orville Ross, Hallie Hilty, Elizabeth Moore, Charles Ross and TJ Ross. Dorothy Jean is survived by daughters Cynthia "Cindy" (Joe) Kamphefner of Platte City, MO and Rebecca "Becky" (Mike) Haxton of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren Vicky Kamphefner, Julie (David) Wood, and Jimmy Haxton; great grandchildren Andrew Wood and Alex Wood; sister Lena Belle Jeffress; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Rollins Funeral Home in Platte City, MO. Funeral service will be at 10:30 am, at the funeral home, on Wednesday, November 17, followed by interment at Platte City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hillcrest Ministries, Platte City, MO.
