ELISABETH WILHELMINE GALLIGAR Obituary

Funeral services for Elisabeth Wilhelmine (Bernhard) Galligar, 97, will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, November 19, 2021 at The Church of Latter-day Saints in Wheatland, Wyoming with Bishopric David Allen presiding. Inurnment will be held at the Wheatland Cemetery.

Elisabeth “Bettli” Galligar died on Monday, November 8, 2021 at the Platte County Legacy Home.

She was born on Thursday, April 17, 1924, the daughter of Konrad and Freida Bernhard in Winterthur, Switzerland.

Elisabeth was independent and adventurous. She was a farmer’s daughter. After graduating from finishing school in the French part of Switzerland, she traveled to Turkey as a governess. She came to the United States as a governess and started her United States adventure in Washington D.C. She became a United States citizen in 1960.

Elisabeth “Bettli” loved to travel and learn about different cultures and ways of life. She traveled around the United States and lived in Florida, Hawaii, Alaska, Arizona, and New York.

Elisabeth “Bettli” married Harold Anderson in Arizona in 1953. They moved to upstate New York and bought a dairy farm. Elisabeth and Harold had three children before Harold passed away in 1962.  Elisabeth had always wanted to visit Wyoming since childhood, when her Uncle Henry sent letters and portraits from his Platte County home. She came to Wheatland and met Julius Galligar. Elisabeth married Julius in 1971 and moved to a ranch west of Wheatland. Julius passed away in 2004.

She liked to visit with neighbors, friends and family. She loved animals and surrounded herself with all types, large and small. She loved horseback riding and the yearly cattle drive.

Elisabeth “Bettli” started her life as a farm girl in Switzerland and became a ranchwoman in Wyoming.

Elisabeth is survived by her children, Peter Anderson, Marcus Anderson, and Heidi Rothenbuehler; grandsons, Dustin Anderson, Shaun Jones, and Marcus Rothenbuehler; great grandsons, Maddox Rothenbuehler, Gale and Asher Jones, and Will and Levi Anderson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Konrad Bernhard and Freida Bernhard; a sister, Freida Schneider; a brother, Konrad Bernhard; and her husbands, Harold Anderson and Julius Galligar.
