William "Bill" Showers Flynn
<p>William S. Flynn (Bill) passed away November 12, 2021, at the Anaconda Community Nursing Home.</p> <p> </p> <p>Bill was born August 1, 1926, to William F. and Josephine (Showers) Flynn. He lived his entire life in Anaconda, save for a few years spent in military service during World War II.</p> <p> </p> <p>He was a little brother of Mary Ann (Montgomery) and Patricia (Morris). He attended Anaconda schools and was active in many activities including playing quarterback on the 1943 Copperhead state championship football team.</p> <p> </p> <p>Late in his senior year, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Bill’s active duty included serving as a radar specialist with assignments in China and postwar Japan. He was honorably discharged as an ETM 3rd class in 1946.</p> <p> </p> <p>Upon his return to Montana, Bill began his career working as a journeyman lineman for the Montana Power Company and the Anaconda Company. Lineman Bill Flynn was the person that helped get your lights back on when the winter storms left you in the dark.</p> <p> </p> <p>Soon after starting his career, he met Sally Ann Foley, an Army Nursing Corp Cadet from Laurel, Montana. They were married August 27, 1947, in Laurel. They raised six children.</p> <p> </p> <p>Bill was active in the electricians IBEW locals 200 and 44 for numerous years. He received a 70-year pin from the union shortly before his death. He served one term as president and participated in negotiating labor agreements with both the ACM and the Montana Power Company.</p> <p> </p> <p>Bill loved his wife and family. Together they experienced multiple adventures and trips of discovery.</p> <p> </p> <p>The family took numerous summer vacation trips around Montana and the Pacific Northwest. Favorite destinations included Yellowstone and the Oregon Coast. After retirement, Bill & Sally spent their winters as snowbirds in Lake Havasu, Arizona, where they made a whole new set of lifelong friends.</p> <p> </p> <p>He taught his sons the joys of bird hunting and fishing in the wonderful mountain settings of western Montana.</p> <p> </p> <p>His five sons, Bill of Spokane, Washington, Tim (Patti) of Sun City West, Arizona, Michael (Anna) of Helena, Bob (Linda) of Twin Bridges, Montana, Dan of Helena, carry on his spirit of joy and helping others. His daughter, Mary (Kahl) Buhl of Spokane keeps the love of her parents near her heart.</p> <p> </p> <p>Bill also has numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren that loved him dearly.</p> <p> </p> <p>Memorials in the name of Bill Flynn can be made to Anaconda Pintler Hospice.</p> <p> </p> <p>Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Anaconda.
