Chung-Sam Wong, age 91, passed away peacefully at home in Toronto on Sunday, November 14, 2021.  He grew up in a fishing village with his parents, two brothers and extended family in Xinhui, Guangdon Province, China.  During the Second World War his mother and maternal grandmother passed away while his father worked in Singapore. Chung-Sam and his two younger brothers became orphans.  To survive, he left his hometown for Guangzhou and worked in a distant relative’s restaurant as a kitchen helper.  Knowing his maternal uncle (舅父 ) was in Hong Kong, he left China and worked for his uncle from 1945 to 1950.  Later, he brought his two younger brothers to Hong Kong. Chung-Sam married the love of his life, Siu-Lan Tam in Hong Kong in 1951.  They started their tea business and raised five children; Adela, Raymond, Ada, Darrin, and Eva.  The couple has seven grandchildren: Candy Shum, Vincent Wong, Jason Wong, Gibson Wong, Anderson Wong, Samson Kwan, and Matthew Kwan. They also have two great-grandchildren, Ethan Wong and Arianne Kwan.   At 67, Chung-Sam and his wife immigrated to Canada.  Without formal education or knowledge of English, the ever- humble Chung-Sam took and passed the Canadian Traffic-Knowledge and Road Test exams, demonstrating his perseverance and hard-work ethic.  Into his later years, he was still driving and grocery shopping with his beloved wife. Those who knew Chung-Sam describe him as generous and kind.  Better to give then to receive was our father’s way.  We all miss him. To celebrate the fullness of his life, a funeral service will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021, at the Chapel Ridge Funeral Home, 8911 Woodbine Avenue, Markham, Ontario L3G 5G1.  Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Buddhist Service at 10:30 a.m. – 11: 00 a.m.   Burial service will follow at the Highland Mills Memorial Gardens, 12492 Woodbine Avenue, Gormley, Ontario.   A reception will be held at the Golden Court, 270 West Beaver Creek Road, Richmond Hill, Ontario L4B 3Y9, from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.
