Harold Roy Sizer

<p>Harold Roy&nbsp;Sizer, 80, of Ogallala passed away Nov. 12 at the Ogallala Community Hospital.&nbsp;</p> <p>Harold&nbsp; was born Dec. 6, 1940 at North Platte, Neb., the third child of Robert L. and Eva M. (Crouse) Sizer. He grew up at Calora on the family ranch in northeast Arthur County. He attended the Center Valley School Dist. 12 and Arthur County High School, graduating in 1959.</p> <p>Harold was a member of the Boy Scouts Troop #1. Among other work while growing up, he worked haying the highway right-of-way for Staples Construction.</p> <p>While in high school Harold helped build the cement block building which housed the Arthur Enterprise printing office, later the grocery store, and is now occupied by the Center for the Study of Place Cotton Mather Library. Also, in high school Harold ran the anchor leg of the 880-yard relay team that won the state track meet his senior year, setting not only the class record, but the all-class record for the event.</p> <p>&nbsp;Harold graduated from Kearney State College with a teaching degree. He taught in Lebanon, Neb. and Red Cloud, Neb.</p> <p>&nbsp;Later Harold owned and operated Kingsley Lodge at Lake McConaughy. He also worked various jobs including working on the Safeway store in Ogallala when it was built.</p> <p>Harold married Deanna Burrows and lived in Ogallala when he returned to teaching in Arthur for a few years. He taught shop, business and driver education from 1979 to 1984 in Arthur. Harold and Deanna later divorced.</p> <p>In 1995, Harold moved to Brandon, Florida where he worked at a Lowe&rsquo;s. Harold returned to Nebraska in 2016, moving to Arthur then Ogallala. He moved to Wel-Life in Ogallala in 2020.</p> <p>Harold is survived by brothers and sisters, Susan and husband Doug Wilson of rural Arthur County, David and wife Karen Sizer of Arthur, Marjorie and husband Daly Leistritz of North Platte, and John and wife Linda of Lake McConaughy; sisters-in-law Virginia Sizer and Kathy (Henry) Vedder of Ogallala; nephews and nieces Ellie Sizer, Evanna (Dave) Hardin, Greg (Carmen) Sizer, Jennifer (Tony) Evans, Mark (Sandi) Wilson, Michael (Kim) Wilson, Michelle (Bill) Simpson, Steve (Patty) Sizer, Tim (Kim) Sizer, Laurie (Scott) Gamerl, JoLyn (Tavis) Auwerda; grand nieces and nephews; cousins; aunt Alice Crouse of Louisiana; uncle Gordon Reichenberg of South Dakota; special friend Donna Lees of Florida; and many friends.</p> <p>&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Wilbert Sizer and Jim Sizer.</p> <p>You may leave your condolences by pressing the &quot;Share a Memory&quot; button.</p> <p>The family chose cremation with a private family service to be held at a later date.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;Draucker Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
