Robert E. "Bob" McGrew Peoria, Illinois Obituary

Robert E. "Bob" McGrew

Robert E. “Bob” McGrew, 84, of Morton, passed away peacefully at 10:55PM on Friday November 12, 2021. He was born on Feb 19, 1937 in Peoria to Clark and Mary O’Connor McGrew. He married Marilyn Roth on May 25, 1963 at St. Mark’s Church and she preceded him in death on August 4, 2009. He is survived by two sons Thomas (Laura) McGrew of Indianapolis, and David (Nancy) McGrew of Germantown Hills; two daughters Sister Diane Marie OSF of Peoria, and Janet Albertson of Goodfield; 11 grandchildren Kellie, Will, Joseph, Jacob, Jack, Joshua, Luke, Amanda, Claire, Henry, and Penelope. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother James. After high school, he entered the United States Navy Seabees, where he served for 3 years, 11 months and 22 days. He joined the apprenticeship for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) local 34 where he was a member for 59 years. He retired from Koener Electric in 1999. Bob was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, but he raised his family at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, where he spent countless hours doing maintenance in both the school and the church. Bob loved to maintain and repair everything. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix. Bob volunteered on the Tazewell Military Rites Team, and he was the pancake maker at the Deer Creek American Legion breakfasts. He enjoyed helping his children repair and maintain their homes, and he loved attending his grandchildren’s activities whenever he could. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM Saturday November 20th 2021 at St. Mark’s Church with the Reverend Monsignor Brian Brownsey officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Friday at Wright and Salmon Mortuary with recitation of the rosary at 6:45 PM. Additional visitation will be 30 minutes before the Mass at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Peoria. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark’s Church, OSF Home Care Services, or Nitsch Theatre Arts NFP. Bob was a great neighbor. Years ago he would come down to fish frys at our house. He always had a smile. Sometimes when he was walking we would meet on the road. We will miss him. Deepest sympathy to his family.
