Faye McClaran

Ruby Faye Samford McClaran, 101, of Mexia went home to her heavenly Father on November 13, 2021.  She passed peacefully at home.  Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at the Temple Baptist Church with Brother Michael Vestal officiating.  Interment will follow in the Lost Prairie Cemetery.  Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Monday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home.

Faye was born June 3, 1920 in Freestone County, Texas to William Short and Fannie Cora (Barge) Samford.  She grew up in Lost Prairie and attended school there.  Faye married her husband, J. C. (Jack) McClaran on July 2, 1937.  They met across the pasture where their families lived and were married 62 years.  Faye worked hard all her life and retired from Southwestern Bell (now AT&T) in 1973.

Faye loved to cook and care for others.  She knew everyone’s favorite meal and always prepared it when they would visit.  Faye was famous for her delicious tea cakes and chocolate tarts.   Faye, also, loved to crochet and would try to teach anyone that wanted to learn.  She made countless afghans for family members, wedding gifts, and baby showers.  When asked about her long life, she would thank the Lord for His blessings and say, “the key is just loving each other and taking care of each other”.  Faye would stress to appreciate the small things of life and know what’s most important.  The most important thing to Faye was spending time with family and putting God first.  She was a faithful Charter member of Temple Baptist Church.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Verna, Alvie, Floyd and Dalton Samford; sisters, Deanie Walton and Margie Walker; and niece, Laressa McMinn-Archibald.

Faye is survived by her sister, Bonnie Johnson of Mexia; sister-in-law, Betty Samford of Waco; nephew, Dewitt McClaran and wife, Charlene of Granbury; great niece, Regina Stone and husband, Curtis, and great-great nieces, Jacie and Julie Stone all of Decatur.  She is also survived by a host of other nieces, nephews, and friends, too numerous to list.

While our hearts grieve, we are so abundantly thankful for the life and love of Aunt Faye and have the assurance of seeing her again.
