Brother Michael “Mike” DeMoss, age 72 of Sturgis, KY passed away on November 11, 2021 at Linda White Hospice House in Evansville, IN. He was born July 7, 1949 in Madisonville, KY. One of Mike’s greatest and most loved accomplishments, besides the love for his family, was serving his Lord and Savior. He graduated from Liberty University Bible College in 2007. He retired from the ministry and pastoring after 27 years. Mike also loved serving the community of Sturgis, KY and was awarded the Citizen of the Year by the Sturgis Kiwanis Club in 1994. He graduated from the Kentucky Police Academy and became the Assistant Police Chief of Sturgis and was the D.A.R.E. teacher at the Sturgis Elementary School. He carried on his public service by being a volunteer fireman and the chaplain of the Sturgis Fire Department for many years. Mike was a Vietnam Veteran. He also dedicated 45 years to the coal mining industry. If you couldn’t find him, he was off doing his favorite hobby of fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Sarah DeMoss; his brother, James “Jimmy” DeMoss. Survivors include: Loving Wife of 50 years: Sharon Back DeMoss of Sturgis, KY Daughter: Kristie Horton and husband Tracy of Price, UT Grandson: Michael “Dalton” Slaton of Bellevue, KY Many nieces and nephews The service will be 1PM Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis, KY. Rev. John East and Rev. Joe Baker will officiate. The burial will be in Grangertown Cemetery with full military rites. The visitation will be 3-7PM Monday and 11AM until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Anthony’s Hospice.
