Arthur “Leroy” Jones, 76, of Mechanicsville, MD, formerly of Hollywood, MD, passed away on November 7, 2021 in Washington, DC. He was the son of the late Martin L. Clements and Amanda L. Dean. Leroy was raised from birth by his maternal grandmother Annie Louise Jones, whom he called his mom. Leroy was the loving husband of Carolyn A. Jones whom he married on October 26, 1968 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Morganza, MD. Leroy is survived by his children Ronnie Jones (Andrea) of Hollywood, MD, Missy O’Brien (Mike) of Hollywood, MD, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He is also survived by his siblings Louis Clements of California, MD, Ruth Johnson of California, MD, Alma Blackwell of California, MD, Pat Abbot of California, MD, Janice Skafidis of California, MD, Bobby Clements of California, MD, Margie Sandidge of California, MD, Gary Dean of Myrtle Beach, SC, Dale Dean of Hollywood, MD, and Marlene Freeman of Hollywood, MD, along with his aunt Leona Stone, whom he considered his sister. He was preceded in death by his daughter Stacey Lynn Jones, sibling Jerry Clements, Allen Clements, David Clements, Ronnie Clements, Joe Dean, and Cliff Dean. Leroy grew up with late his aunts and uncles, Evelyn Clements, Thomas Jones, Hoover Jones, Hilda Morgan, Lindy Jones, Samuel Jones, Cecelia Hope Morgan, Connie Woodburn and considered them his brothers and sisters. He was a lifelong St. Mary’s County, MD resident and attended Leonardtown High School. Leroy worked for the St. Mary’s County Public School system as a locksmith for over 30 years, retiring in 1999. After retiring from the St. Mary’s County Board of Education, he drove a school bus from 2001 to 2017 for St. Mary’s County Schools. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 15, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 10:00 AM in St. John’s Catholic Church, Hollywood, MD with Father Ray Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be Bobby Moran, Timmy Jones, Mike O’Brien, Dale Dean, Joey Longly, and Jeff Griffin. Honorary pallbearers will be Aly Griffin, Gwendolyn Jones, Amanda Griffin, Bridgette Jones, and Evelyn Arias.
