Keith Remy Obituary

Keith Remy (age 88), surrounded by his loving family, died in Starkville after a brief illness on November 9, 2021. A memorial service will be held at Starkville’s First United Methodist Church on Monday, November 15. Visitation will be in the church sanctuary from 1:30 – 3:00, with the service immediately following. Ashes will be interred in the Memorial Garden of First Presbyterian Church, Wooster, Ohio, at a later date.

Keith was a native of Iowa and graduate of Iowa State University. Following graduation, he was an instructor pilot in the United States Air Force. He and his wife, Ruth, began their married life at the Greenville Air Force Base, Greenville, MS. Following his tour of active duty, his employment took him to Des Moines, Iowa (1958 -1966) and Wooster, Ohio (1966 – 1985). He was a member of the Wooster Rotary Club and served as editor of the club’s weekly bulletin for 16 years. He and Ruth also hosted four Rotary International exchange students while living in Ohio.

The Remys moved to Starkville in 1985 when Keith was named head of the editorial department of the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Experiment Station. He retired from Mississippi State in 1997. He was a lifetime member of Agricultural Communicators in Education and was awarded with the association’s highest honor in 1995.

Keith was an active member of the Starkville Rotary Club, served as weekly bulletin editor for 20 years, and helped start the club’s participation in the Rotary International Youth Exchange program. In 2009, Rotary District 6820 established the Ruth and Keith Remy Youth Award in recognition of their efforts.

In 2008, Keith received the T.E. Veitch Award for Community Service from the Greater Starkville Development Partnership. He had been a member of Starkville’s First Presbyterian Church and First United Methodist Church. In addition, he was a former board member and Chairman of the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity. He served as faculty advisor to the MSU Chapter of Farm House Fraternity (1986-2000) and was recognized by the international board of Farm House as a Master Builder of Men in 1994.

Keith is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth; daughters Carol Remy Walker (Bob) of Hudson, OH, and Nancy Remy Stout (Chris) of Houston, TX; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and brother, Tracy, of Algona, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Beth Remy, and son, David.
