<p><span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family:tahoma,geneva,sans-serif;"><strong>William Orville Herring, 79, of Independence, WV began his new life in heaven on Sunday, November 7, 2021, following a battle with cancer. &nbsp;Born on January 22, 1942, he was the son of the late Edith Thaxton and Orville Herring. In addition to his parents, Mr. Herring was preceded in death by three brothers James, Charles, and Frederick Herring and one sister, Eloise Holsinger. &nbsp;He is survived by his sister, Mary Lou Marrara, of Bonita Springs, Florida and will be deeply missed by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.</strong></span></span></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family:tahoma,geneva,sans-serif;"><strong>Mr. Herring served as Platoon Leader with the 363rd Transportation Company of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He entered the service in February 1967 and at the time of his honorable discharge in September 1968 had earned the rank of E-5 Sargent. Mr. Herring was awarded a letter of commendation, the prestigious Presidential Bronze Star Medal, and a Purple Heart.</strong></span></span></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family:tahoma,geneva,sans-serif;"><strong>Following his military service, William settled in Warren, Ohio and pursued a lengthy career with Alcan Aluminum Corporation. He was a lifetime member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and a dedicated member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and the Preston Country Club. William enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, and family gatherings. Mr. Herring, who lived a modest life, will be most remembered for his humility, sense of humor, shy nature, and loyalty to family and friends.</strong></span></span></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family:tahoma,geneva,sans-serif;"><strong>Friends and family will be received at Browning Funeral Home located at 201 East Main Street Kingwood, WV on Friday, November 12, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.&nbsp; A Christian Service of Resurrection, led by Pastor Joe Lamm, will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at Browning Funeral Home on Saturday, November 13, 2021, followed by burial with military funeral honors at Maplewood Cemetery in Kingwood, WV.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the VFW Post 1589, 8477 Veterans Memorial Hwy, Masontown, WV 26542</strong></span></span></p>

William Orville Herring, 79, of Independence, WV began his new life in heaven on Sunday, November 7, 2021, following a battle with cancer.  Born on January 22, 1942, he was the son of the late Edith Thaxton and Orville Herring. In addition to his parents, Mr. Herring was preceded in death by three brothers James, Charles, and Frederick Herring and one sister, Eloise Holsinger.  He is survived by his sister, Mary Lou Marrara, of Bonita Springs, Florida and will be deeply missed by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
