Floyd Lamont Simpson, Jr. Mustang, Oklahoma Obituary

Floyd Lamont Simpson, Jr.

Floyd Lamont Simpson Jr., husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away at the age of 89 on November 7 into the presence of his Lord and Savior. Floyd was born in Idabel, Oklahoma, on February 13, 1932, to Floyd Lamont Sr. and Violet (Wicker) Simpson. Floyd attended school in Idabel, Oklahoma and enjoyed many childhood antics with his buddies as he grew up. Upon his graduation in 1950, Floyd and his friends, at the encouragement of their teacher, enlisted in the military. Floyd proudly served in the United States Air Force and was deployed to Korea during the Korean War. He held the rank of Staff Sergeant, and in his later years was able to share fascinating stories with his daughters and grandkids of his time in Korea. Upon his return to the United States, Floyd attended college at Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater (now OSU), and obtained his Associate’s degree as well as his pilot’s license. Upon graduation, Floyd secured a job at the Federal Aviation Administration in OKC, where he worked until his retirement in 1990. In 1962, Floyd’s world changed for the better when he met and quickly fell in love with his bride, Deanna. They were married on July 22, 1962 and enjoyed almost 54 years of marriage, until Deanna’s death in 2016. Floyd and Deanna moved to Mustang, Oklahoma in 1968, where they raised their four daughters. Undaunted by daughters, Floyd taught them how to garden, mow, change their oil and flat tires, as well as bait their own hooks. As an avid fisherman, he was kind enough to remove most fish for them. Camping was a family past time and he taught his daughters how to water ski as the family spent their summers on the lakes of Oklahoma. As one of his greatest parental successes, he taught all four daughters how to drive and survived. Floyd was an avid hunter and especially enjoyed deer season, and even navigated the trauma that ensured when he had a successful hunt and then had to deal with tearful daughters once he returned home with the fruits of his labor. Floyd was a founding member of the Mustang City Council, a Master Gardener, and played Senior League Softball until he was nearly 70 years old. Floyd was a born again Christian and was a member of Chisholm Heights Baptist church for over 50 years. He was a preschool Sunday School teacher for many years with Deanna, and helped with the treasury as well. He volunteered his time and gifts when the church expanded and a new sanctuary was built and he built life- long friendships along the way. Floyd was preceded in death by his beloved wife Deanna, his parents, Floyd and Violet, his older sister Helen Roulaine, his younger brother James (Sanie) Simpson, as well as an infant sister, Martha, son-in-law Don Midgley, nephew Bob Wright and a sister-in-law, Jerry Rutledge. He is survived by his daughters: Pam Midgley, Leslie Vincent and husband Eric, Andrea Green and husband Travis and Teresa Stark and husband JR; thirteen grandchildren: Taylor Midgley and wife Tara, Garrett Midgley and wife Jessica, Kamryn Turley and husband Michael, Kaitlyn Bandy and husband Stephen, Kyle Vincent, Molly Vincent, Sara Lynch, Daniel Lynch, Mary Coker and husband Chris, Hannah Thompson and husband Eric, Gracen Green, Trevor Stark and Rachel Stark. He is also survived by 8 great grandchildren: Braylon, Colton, Ryan, Remi, Swayd, Laylah, Harper and Hope; his sister-in-laws, Bobbie Simpson, Evelyn Bowman and Faye Smalley; many nieces and nephews, as well as many foster children who have been loved and adored by his grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2021 from 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm at McNeil’s funeral home in Mustang, Oklahoma. Online condolences may be made to www.mcneilsfuneral.com Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm, Friday, November 12, 2021, at Chisholm Heights Baptist Church with internment to follow at the Mustang Cemetery. The family kindly requests everyone dress in their favorite “America’s Brightest Orange” gear in honor of Floyd and his love for his Cowboys. Go, Pokes! In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations may be made to the INTEGRIS Artificial Heart/Advanced Cardiac Care Fund or the 4C Foundation. Floyd was, in 2015, the oldest patient to date in the state of Oklahoma to receive an LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device). The LVAD and the fabulous team at Integris extended our Dad’s life, and gave us many more years of memories and chances to say I love you. As he once told his doctors when he was hoping to be considered for the life-saving procedure, “I have many more grandkids’ ball games to go and watch.” And, he did. We are so grateful. Donations can be made to the LVAD fund via: INTEGRIS Health Foundation, PO Box 57380 Oklahoma Ok 73157 (Check memo: In memory of Floyd Simpson) or donate online at https://www.integrisgiving.org/give-now (Please choose “other” and type INTEGRIS Artificial Heart/Advanced Cardiac Care.) The 4C Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which supports innovative and promising research focused on childhood cancer. This foundation was very dear to Floyd and continues to be to his family. Donations to the 4C Foundation can me made via 4C Foundation, P.O. Box 433 Hinton, OK, 73047.
