<p>SERVICE INFORMATION:</p> <p>Kathryn Jo "Kathy" (Connell) Birchmier, 65, of Shenandoah, IA, entered into eternal rest on Monday morning, November 8, 2021 at the Red Oak Good Samaritan Society. A celebration of Kathy's life will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service in Shenandoah with Pastor Jack Langley officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah. Memorials in Kathy's name are being directed to the Red Oak Good Samaritan Society, where she last worked as an LPN. Following the committal service there will be a time of lunch and fellowship at the Shenandoah Eagles Club.</p> <p>OBITUARY:</p> <p>Kathryn Jo (Connell) Birchmier, daughter of Patrick Kenneth and LaWanda Lou (Jeffers) Connell, was born on August 18, 1956, in Shenandoah, Iowa. She entered into eternal rest on Monday morning, November 8, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society – Red Oak, IA, at the age of 65 years, 2 months, 21 days.</p> <p>Her early life was spent growing up in Shenandoah, where she attended the Shenandoah Community Schools. Kathy graduated from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1974. </p> <p>Following graduation, Kathy married her high school sweetheart. They would later divorce. She also attended Nursing School and received her LPN license. Caring for people was second nature to Kathy, she was well respected in her field and will be remembered as a hard worker who would go out of her way to help anyone out. Over a career that spanned 44 years, she worked several places as a nurse. Most notably, Kathy spent most of her career working at Elm Heights Care Center and Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah and most recently at the Good Samaritan Society in Red Oak.</p> <p>All who knew her, remember her generosity, compassion and sense of humor. She so loved her family and enjoyed spoiling them at Christmas. Kathy was most happy when surrounded by her friends and family, her two dogs, Barkley and Chancy and her cat, Calli. She also enjoyed the numerous shopping trips she and Tiffanni would go on and the occasional trip to the casino as well. Playing games and in the quieter moments, reading a good book were also her favorites. Some of her best times were had with her friends and family at the Eagles Club in Shenandoah.</p> <p>Preceding Kathy in death were her parents; sister, Cindy (Connell) Swain; and many aunts and uncles. Left to cherish her memory are her brother, Kelly Patrick Connell and wife Tiffanni; sister, Sheila Green and husband Dennis; two nieces, Hayleigh Connell and Jennifer Swain; two nephews, Chris Swain and Josef Connell; five great nieces and nephews; cousins and other relatives; and many friends.</p>Obituary
