Lafe D. "Dean" Poe

Lafe D. “Dean” Poe passed away on November 6, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 62. He was born on March 24, 1959, to Lafe D. Poe and Ruth A. (Swindler-Poe) Post in Pratt, KS. He was married to Elizabeth (Goff) Poe; they later divorced. They have three grown children: Christopher, Michael & Britteny. Dean attended schools in Gillette, WY and Stafford, KS. He was a welder by trade, just like his beloved father (with the same name). Dean last worked for Payton Machine & Supply, Inc in Borger, TX. Dean is survived by his sons, Christopher Poe and Michael Poe, both of Guthrie OK; daughter, Britteny Pace (Anthony Martinez) of Albuquerque NM; brothers, Thomas Hodges of St. John KS and Terry Hodges of Tenino WA; sisters, Cheryl Baldwin of Borger TX, Sandy Odle of Stafford KS, Tammy Poe of El Dorado KS and Angel Fasulo of Zurich KS; as well as five grandchildren, Arianna, Chance, Jace, Gabriella and Tiarra. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Harley Sherman and Emma Mae Poe and Jack and Margaret Swindler; parents, Lafe D. Poe, Ruth A. Post and step-father, Doyle L. Post. One memory of Dean was all the kids goofing around in the yard at 212 S. Buffalo in Stafford, KS. Just wrestling and playing as kids do until somebody got “hurt”, then the boys got yelled at to stop picking on the girls. That house no longer stands, but the memories will never fade. As a youngster, Dean did not like to go to school. This started back in elementary school when Mom would drop Dean off at school and later the school would call her asking where Dean was. Mom would find Dean at the edge of the playground up in a tree hiding. This was Dean, ornery. This not wanting to go to school continued until his sophomore year when he could finally decide for himself school just wasn’t for him. Dean took up bowling with Mom, mostly. His bowling ball is red, white & blue. Totally Dean style. When the family moved to Stafford KS, Dean had a black dog named Clyde and a Persian white cat named Bonnie. Again, totally Dean. In Dean’s later years, he had his beloved dog named Willow who was 17 years old when he buried him in his back yard. He also had several cats that he loved. Dean liked to watch country western shows on television. He liked to work on things or “tear stuff up” as some would say, but he always meant well. He loved his family as we did him. A private family service will be held at a later date.
