Melvin Edward Cook Obituary

Melvin Edward Cook passed away at 81 years of life where he resided with his daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Alton Price of Pineville, Louisiana on Monday, November 1st, 2021, at 1:45 p.m. due to complications of COPD/Emphysema. Melvin was born April 8, 1940 in Allegan, Allegan County Michigan to Frank James Cook and Aileen May (Haskin) Cook. He was married to Gloria Jean Kasper of Grand Rapids, Michigan on November 14th, 1958 and later divorced in 1982. Mel, as he was known to those who knew and loved him was also known for his days behind the wheel of the “Big Rigs”, of approximately 22 years, driving coast to coast for many of those. Of all his journeys he traveled his sights were set on his time he spent in Alaska after giving up his truck driving career. As well, Mel made a life in the Foundry’s/Factory’s until his diagnosis of COPD/Emphysema in approximately 2008/2009. He resided at his home in Stanwood, Michigan until he moved to his most recent residence of Louisiana in 2010. Mel is survived by his following Children: Linda Sue (Cook) Dontje, divorced, of Newaygo, Michigan; Melvin Edward Cook, Jr., divorced, of Unicoi, Tennessee; Henry Cook, married to Theresa Ann (Covey) Cook of Stanwood, Michigan; Glorene Sonja (Cook) Archambault, married to David Luc Archambault of Strickland, Ontario Canada; Paula Ann (Cook) Price, married to Alton Ray Price, Jr. of Pineville, Louisiana; Dennis Gregory Cook of Stanwood, Michigan; 9 Grandchildren; 12 Great Grandchildren; 4 Great, Great Grandchildren. His Brother, Forrest (Mike) Lyn Cook, married to Linda Marie (Davis)Cook of Apple Valley, California; Sister, Elnora (Ellie) Marie Crandall, divorced, of Racine, Wisconsin; Brother, Rodney (Rod) Cook, widower of (Aunt) Caroline Sue Best of Newaygo, Michigan; 4 Nephews and 8 Nieces. Pre-Deceased by: Grandson, William (Billy) Eugene Parish III; Brother, James Henry Cook; Sister, Floy Antoinette (Cook) Sears; Father, Franklin James Cook and Mother, Aileen May (Haskin) Cook. Mel enjoyed life as a very unique individual, throwing out a line into the calm, clear waters awaiting that perfect catch or settling into a quiet secluded blind awaiting that perfect shot during hunting season. He loved his quiet solitude but was always up for that unexpected visit and conversation over a fresh cup of coffee. He enjoyed his collections of eagles and knives and always, always found great joy in the crispness of the air, the warmth of the sun on his face and the constant view of horses grazing in the fields where he last called home. Rest in Peace Daddy, you will be missed by all…….
