Betty Jean Moates Obituary

Betty Jean Livingston Moates, 85, of Newberry died Saturday, November 6, 2021 at White Oak Manor. Born on March 11, 1936 in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Frank Hubert and Ruth Owings Livingston. Betty Jean truly enjoyed her job as a cashier and trainer at Wal-Mart and loved her work family. She especially enjoyed traveling to new store openings to help train the new cashiers and working alongside others to help conduct the annual Wal-Mart bass tournament. Most of all, Betty Jean loved her lord and her family. She was a good Christian lady and of the Baptist faith. She was a hard worker, not just at her job but in all that she did. Betty Jean loved sewing and crocheting and was always making things for her family, including the band flags for her granddaughter, Jessica’s band trips. Her heart was big and she filled it with love, doing good for those she loved. She was a wonderful Momma. Despite not having a lot, she made sure her daughters had enough and taught them how to take care of themselves. They remember how she would always position the clothes on the line so that those passing by couldn’t see the ‘unmentionables’. She gave them chores to complete, but also knew the importance of fun, encouraging games of softball and often looking the other way when they didn’t mind her to ‘stay out of the creek’. And she loved her grandchildren – they were her light and joy. Betty Jean is survived by her three daughters, Janette W. Davenport (Jeff) of Laurens, Debra M. Livingston of Newberry, and Linda M. Bundrick (Eddie) of Prosperity, SC; 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchilren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Calvin Livingston, and an infant daughter who died at birth. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Eddie Bledsoe at 2PM, Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Freedom Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. The families will be at their respective homes and will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service, starting at 1PM. Pallbearers will be Chris Bundrick, Jessie Bundrick, Matthew Radford, Woodrow Sease, Michael Bundrick, and Jeff Davenport. Wyatt Wilson will serve as an Honorary Pallbearer. Memories and condolences may be shared here on her Tribute Wall. Whitaker Funeral Home is honored to assist the family.
